Wasn't expecting the retcon, though I do get it - first appearances, or second as they apply to Sarah Jane and Jack, do count for a lot. And then he makes that promise to her, and she forgets it, but he and Ianto won't, and that's the important part. Did they remember to wipe a bit of Mr. Smith too? And the selfishness wins, and I certainly don't blame him - not just that Ianto's dishy and makes fantastic coffee, but also that Jack deserves something good, and Ianto... Well.
Overall, a delightful and altogether awesome read. I must admit, when you first mentioned the fic, I thought it was just going to be Sarah Jane and Jack meet up for tea and crumpets for the sheer hell of it - and then there was this wonderful PLOT and it was just... Oh. Like a nice warm blanket, this fic. Thank you so much for finishing and sharing this. And now I need to go to sleep, because I shall have to be up again in about four hours... Night!
(You would not believe the amount of trouble I had to go through just to post this comment...)
Thank you - I am SO GLAD this didn't dismally fail your expectations, which is what I was dreading from your earlier comments, they were so encouraging but I've been wrapped up in this thing for so long now, I honestly have no sense of objective perspective left with it. Crazy

I really like this, a lovely return to Jack and Ianto via Sarah Jane and company. It was great figuring out who Luke brought home to mom, and then everything following... nice seeing it all through people who don't already know Ianto, and Jack, later.
And of course Jack did sort of live down to Sarah Jane's suspicions, threatening her and then Retconning everybody on the way out! But it was out of love, obviously.
Yeah, Jack honestly has no scruples about this kind of thing. He really does believe he knows best: I don't think it would cross his mind that there might be a less paranoid or aggressive way of looking for Ianto or dealing wit5h the aftermath, he's very much about the shortest clearest line between two points, at times. Sarah Jane is right about him, but we still love him anyway (and want to whack him about the head a lot too, of course).
Oh, Riv! Only you could have me reading Torchwood fic again so soon and smiling at the end of it (although there's a fair heaping of bittersweet in comparing what I wish happened after your fic and what happened in canon - "I promise you, Sarah Jane Smith, I'll take care of him. I will heal him, and I will keep him safe, trust me." Ouch!).
There are so many wonderful little details in there that I'm currently too caught up in the overall awesome to point out, but the characters were all spot on and your language was, as usual, something I want to wallow in for days. I am so glad you finished and posted this, because it has made my poor, sick day.
Thank you, what a LOVELY thing to read! You make me very grinny, not something I expect anything much Torchwood-related to do these days, grump grump
