I'm not much of a "gamer," but I do have a PS3. I could count the number of games I have on both hands though. But one thing that the PS3 has: a really good Blu-ray player. That's what sold me. From what I understand, the X-Box has a slightly better game selection, but I don't know the extent. I've also heard that you have a to buy a lot of XBox components, such as the hard drive, a la carte, which is pretty lame. You also have to pay to play online, whereas PS3's online network is free. But I'm sure there are people that are much more video game savvy that could give you better input.

The Blu-Ray isn't as much of a big deal for me, since we don't have an HD TV and wouldn't be able to enjoy it. :)

If you want a console for kids to play kid games, the Wii is totally the way to go. We also have an Xbox 360, most of the games on which are way too hard for me. I do enjoy though, being able to play with friends online. I've met some neat people playing Xbox live Trivia games. I've also been called a "cheating whore" by a young teenager who didn't know shit about movies.

H is a big gamer, and he is really digging the Xbox even though as a Mac guy, he hates microsoft and all they stand for.

I'm with H on the hating on Microsoft bit. :) On the other hand, the few times I've played an Xbox I've enjoyed it. Brian's into FPS games, though, which the Wii is lacking. Plus we only have Small One around every other weekend, so we'd be using the console much more than she would; buying a Wii for her sake when the present is for the two of us would probably be a little much.

(I will say, though, that I love MarioKart & Dokapon Kingdom & Raving Rabbids and such! Wii is pretty awesome.)

Dude, I'D play Epic Mickey!!! But, B likes him some bloodsplatter, which Wii is definitely not all about.

Wii is fun as hell, though.

If you already own games for the Wii and you're looking for something friendly for the whole family as it were, you might as well go for a Wii. They're not bad little systems, and indeed have something for everyone, with the addition of being able to download a ton of old video games for pretty cheap.

As far as the Xbox and PS3 go, both of them have a slightly different selection of downloadable stuff, on the whole tend to have much more pretty graphics (which can mean a lot to people!) and larger physical game libraries. They share a majority of games. Xbox stuff is going to be a bit cheaper as it's arguably the more popular system, but the PS3 does double as a BluRay player, so, it's kind of a tossup there.

Hope this helps.

It does help some, thanks.

As I mentioned above, we really only have the Small One here every other weekend, so being all family-friendly is not at the top of our list of priorities. I do enjoy playing Wii, but Brian's into FPS, which I hear Wii just doesn't do.

Also, we don't have an HDTV, so BluRay would be kinda a waste.

I think I'm leaning more towards the Xbox at this point...

I am a fan of the Xbox. I also recently heard that the PS3, in addition to still being a bit on the expensive side, is no longer backwards compatible. Of course, since you probably don't have any PS1 or 2 stuff, that's probably not an issue.

I read the post that said that many of the games for Xbox are too hard for the person who posted... I don't know what games s/he has, but I am not a console gamer really and there are several games on Xbox that I really like and am good at. Mostly puzzle games. :) PuzzleQuest is SUPER fun. It's like Bejeweled with a fantasy storyline.

I like Wii too but honestly I prefer the Xbox because the Wii is primarily a party console, in that most Wii games are the most fun when you're with a bunch of people. Xbox (and probably also PS3) have more options for single- and double- player games.
