Ok, this is a discussion post about a possible group trip for us all, as small as 'us all' is.
One of the main advantages we have going for us in SoCal is that we live near the television and movie capital of the world. While sadly we can't go and watch an episode of Doctor Who or Firefly being filmed, and typically movie sets are closed, we CAN go and watch some television shows being filmed.
What I'd really like to do is get a group together that is willing to do a trip out to Burbank to watch an episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY being filmed. The tickets are FREE, the actors & show is hilarious, and the jokes/references are relevant to our scifi interests. If you haven't seen The Big Bang Theory, I really highly suggest it (and might even show an episode or two at our next screening if you all don't mind). It's not a scifi series per se, but its in that small little subgenre of poking affectionate familiar fun at scifi and comic fans (and scientists! ♥ ).
The filming dates coming up this year are:
10/20/09 ★ 10/27/09 ★ 11/10/09 ★ 11/17/09 ★ 11/24/09 ★ 12/8/09
We can order free tickets through
Audiences Unlimited within 30 days of the filming date (so, like, we couldn't preorder for the December filming until 30 days before hand). The studio is located at
WARNER BROS. STUDIOS
4210 W. OLIVE AVE., BURBANK, CA
and from what I've heard on some forums from people who've attended, the filming is fantastic but it starts late, so we'd probably need to stay at a hotel that night (maybe share a room(s) depending on how large a group we can get) and carpool there & back. (Hotel stay is NOT MANDATORY, though it does make things easier for driving, since Burbank is about 70 miles away. However, if we have a carpool with a driver willing to drive back at night, then that is a completely valid option too!)
Please let me know if you guys are interested in doing this. I plan on finding a way to do it myself no matter what, but I feel like this would really be fun for a group like ours. I might even order the first seasons first disc from Netflix so I can show you guys the first couple episodes at our next meet if you don't mind, just so you can see what I'm all geeky over if you don't know it yet.
