EXTERIOR - MORNING
The bar terrace of the Ayasofya Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey
A plate of bread, butter, jam and honey sits on the table.
TARA is sitting in a chair.
She looks around.
SOPHIE slips into the chair opposite her.
A waiter hurries over.
Sophie looks at the waiter.
SOPHIE
Tea please.
WAITER
Of course.
He hurries off and returns with a tray holding a tea pot and a cup. He places the tea pot in front of Sophie.
WAITER
Shall I pour your tea?
SOPHIE
No thank you.
The waiter sets the tea cup on the table.
WAITER
I hope you like the tea. It’s the hotel’s special blend.
The waiter leaves.
Tara takes a sip of tea before speaking.
TARA
I was getting worried. I was afraid that you forgot our meeting
SOPHIE
[apologetic]
Sorry, I was scooping out our next con. It could be our big break
TARA
That’s what you said before we had to flee Athens.
SOPHIE
How was I to know that Nate Ford was there? I thought he was in Paris.
TARA
[Smiling]
At least I managed to grab our passports and some euros
SOPHIE
True. Now relax and enjoy breakfast.
She takes a piece of bread and adds honey. She takes a bite and laughs.
SOPHIE (CONT'D)
Nicky Papakonstantinou is young, handsome and rich. Fancies himself a ladies man
TARA
How rich?
SOPHIE
Well, let me think. The family estate outside Istanbul, a townhouse on the island of Corfu, a villa in Rome, an apartment on New York’s Upper West Side, a ski chalet in Davos. .
She ticks each place off on her fingers.
SOPHIE (CONT'D)
TARA
And what is Nicky’s passion?
SOPHIE
He has a weakness for the casinos and prefers a companion that is elegant and understated.
TARA
And our in is?
SOPHIE
A mutual friend who happens to be in Paris for the fashion shows.
Sophie and Tara eat quietly admiring the sea view.
