Why Twitter?

Other than 'because the cool kids do it'?

Do I want to tether myself to my computer more than I already do?  Do people care about the random thoughts running through my head?  Do people get something more out of it?  Tell me!

It allows me to throw snippets of things out there that don't warrant an entire LJ post.

I had doubts about it too (and only started a week or two ago), but it's actually fun. And it really does allow one to keep in touch with people in an even more immediate fashion than blogging does.

Nobody really expects deep and profound thoughts in twitters, so it's easy.

Obviously Twitter is more interesting when you have a life. :)

I don't like to make one-line posts on el jay, so really Twitter is keeping me from dropping off posting. I might do a bit more long-form posting if I didn't have Twitter, but not much.

You can set LoudTwitter (the thing that posts to lj) not to show your @ replies, and I like the logs better when people do. I also have Twitter set up not to show them to me in my friends feed.

I also have friends who don't read/use lj that I track by Twitter.

I see people doing a lot of interesting things with Twitter. There's a guy who does short stories in 140 characters exactly. I have several tech columnists I read who use it to supplement their columns. I get one twitterer who posts links to mashups there more regularly than to his blog. I enjoy reading it even when I don't have a lot to say.

It may not be worth it for everybody but it's worth it for me.

It was lovely feeling in touch with people while I was away. I sent updates on my trip, and I also followed a select few people (not the heavy SL-ers like Mal Burns or Torley).
