Trying my imp of Galvanic Goggles out at the moment, which I was lucky to receive free in my last BPAL imp order.

Metallic notes with Indian musk, tobacco flower, and African balsam.
Erm . . . well, I did just put it on a few minutes ago, so maybe I need to let it sink in better, but so far, it's proving just too masculine for me. Plus, it's quite ( Read more... )

Ooh, so many lovely scents! Since you haven't picked anything for Eleven yet, I recommend something custard-y - with a hint of fish, if possible. :P
(And if it isn't too much to ask, have you found anything for our girl Fourteen?)

I'm not familiar with BPAL, as you can imagine, but I've recently fallen in love with a BeneFit perfume called Carmella. The description in the catalogue is as follows:
top notes: lemon, grapefruit, rhubarb
middle notes: cyclamen, peony, tiare flower
bottom notes: vanilla, sandalwood, amber

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who reacted to Solitaire with "this isn't a Companion Chronicle!" I really liked the story (particularly the twist at the end, with Charley showing just how brilliant she is and with the Toymaker growing more and more childish and petulant) but it didn't fit the format at all. For me, the most perfect CC within the format was the Litefoot and Jago one - storytelling taken to an extreme. Jo in The Mists of Time follows closely, since the storytelling becomes essential to the plot.

Hee, when you mentioned fish, I thought of some of the more aquatic scents in the Picnic in Arkham line, but I'm not sure if any of them would work for Eleven. :P
(& not yet, but I'm keeping an eye out, mind . . .)

O, BPAL is AMAZING, doll! I still think you should give it a try. ;) But your new perfume sounds equally nice too.

I hope this also means that we aren't the only ones who felt like that! It IS good for Charley, to see her be so bright & clever, but it just wasn't a Companion Chronicle - more of a solo Charley story with Dolly!Eight sort of added in to make it like a Companion Chronicle. I hope she gets another one in the future - a more 'classical' one.
& since you mentioned The Mahogany Murderers, I think that Solitare would have been a good sort of pilot episode for Charley's own series, much like the latter was for Jago & Litefoot's series.

Unless there's also some candy (or perhaps biscuits) in it, probably not. :P
(Yay!)

Sadly, I don't have much chances on getting my hands on it where I am. Ah well... But yes, mine has a lovely scent - and BeneFit's perfumes are packaged in small boxes depicting the apartment belonging to the girl the perfume embodies, and Carmella's apartment feels very Holly Golightly to me. :)

Yes, I'd love to see an actual CC from Charley. This one, as you suspected, was indeed a pilot for her series, but it didn't fit into the CCs like The Mahogany Murderers did.

Hee, there was a limited edition of Valentine's Day Lovecraft oils, but I don't remember any of them, alas. Some of those might have worked for Eleven! :D

O, I've seen those - aren't they just adorable? I tested them once, but I forget the one I really liked. I just love BeneFit's packaging so. :D

Hopefully this won't be her only entry - everyone else, even Zoe, has at least two, so maybe she'll have a better one in the future.

I still want to try Galvanic Goggles one of these days :) I keep meaning to but always put it off. I did hear that it's very masculine though, as are almost all the oils in the Phoenix steamworks line except perhaps Violet Ray.

I absolutely love your BPAL / Doctor Who theories :D

I say Glasgow for two, but then I absolutely love Two/Jamie ;)

Of course . . . maybe he prefers Glasgow, to tease certain hot-blooded young Highlanders that he knows . . .

I could also see Casanova for Three ('who says librarians can't be sexy? A rakish blend of leather, anise, lavender, bergamot and amber with tonka, lemon peel and lusty patchouli.') :) Rome too, I went through a whole bottle of that one :) The rose isn't too intense in it, it's more chamomile and woods.

Miskatonic University is sooooo perfect for Four :D I don't wear it myself because food scents don't suit me that well but I love the smell of it, so I kept the imp and sometimes I put a bit on a piece of paper and just sniff it all day ;)

March Hare for Five, definitely. Mad Hatter ( ... )

I think you'd like Galvanic Goggles - very much a masculine scent & the slight flowery notes didn't come out until hours later on me. I'm a little sad that all but Violet Ray probably won't work for me, but I DID want to try Violet Ray at some point. It sounds a bit like Ultraviolet, which I adore!

It was so much fun - I wish more people discussed BPAL & Doctor Who in the same go! :D

The description of Glasgow once inspired Two/Jamie fic from me, you know. ;D

YES, Casanova would be delightful for Three as well - very good choice for a dandy like he is. :D I adore Rome for him the best, I think - it just . . . sort of flails at me & yells 'THREE!' :P

If any Doctor were to wear Miskatonic University, I'd say it would be Four. Four is also the only Doctor I could imagine drinking an Irish Coffee. :P ( ... )

Awwh, I'm glad I could make you soften up just a wee bit on Ten, even if I can understand how not everybody can love him :D

Ohh, the dragons are a great line for Amy. Dragon's Eye or Dragon's Reverie, perhaps? I wonder what to go for with Rory. It would be funny to say Antony what with the Roman thing, but I actually think Auton!Rory would smell very plasticky throughout, and regular!Rory would just be well-groomed with some regular soapy, pleasant smell.

Eee! I love the Doctorish BPAL speculation! (I *still* haven't ordered anything from there yet, though I *must* try some of the Mad Tea Party scents. As well as Ode to Melancholy & a few of the Shakespeare ones. ^_^

(seeeecretly . . . I feel that when he was the Doctor, Peter Davison would have made the perfect boy!Alice. He had the innocent little face & sweet demeanour for it. Boy!Alice!)

YES. (Really, I just want Alice to meet the Doctor at some point. I haven't been brave enough to actually tag a Doctor yet, though. Erm, perhaps I should explain that I started RPGing as Alice earlier this year.)

Eeep, hello, dolly! ::tackleglomps:: I've missed you, you know!

It was such a fun exercise - some easy, some quite hard! (I've got imps of Katharina & Ophelia! I haven't worn Katharina yet; it was a free one in my last order & it smells lovely, but Ophelia was rather disappointing for me. Darn. :( & I myself need something from the Alice collection! I just haven't picked which ones yet.)

EEEE, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE! THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE HIM PLAY A BOY!ALICE WHEN HE WAS YOUNG. ::points to icon:: Look at his perfect boy!Alice face! (& I think you told me about it once, & I say yay! Go on, try your luck! & then tell me all about it, please? :D)?

I haven't listened to Solitaire yet, partially because doll!Doctor on the cover seriously creeps me out. I agree with your assessment of Assassin in the Limelight -- I was really looking forward to that one, too, so it was a big disappointment for me. I really enjoyed Cobwebs, because I love the Tegan/Turlough/Nyssa Team TARDIS (even if Nyssa is older now), and the way it played with time was interesting (The Whispering Forest isn't as good, but the ending is a fantastic lead in to the next story ( ... )
