Elizabeth was here. The thought repeated itself in Darcy's head, and it both excited and worried him. He wanted to see her again-- truly, he did-- but when he had last seen her, they had not ended on good terms. And yet for some reason, Elizabeth was civil to him here; the things she spoke of happening-- the letter, her meeting his sister-- had not happened, Darcy was sure of that. But Elizabeth was not the type to lie...

The logic behind it all boggled him, and as he walked the short distance to the docks to meet with Elizabeth, he found himself wondering if this really was his Elizabeth.

He reached the docks in almost no time at all. He picked her out quiet easily; at least she looked the same as the Elizabeth he knew. Moving closer, he found himself growing nervous, and after catching her attention, he bowed slightly. "Miss Elizabeth."

She had to admit, she was a bit antsy, and she bowed quickly when he approached, relieved of her nervousness with his arrival.

"Mister Darcy," she echoed, hands remaining clasped at her sides as she hugged herself, smiling up at him a bit weakly.

He didn't remember most of the things that she remembered having come to pass, which was strange, but then again, this whole place was the very definition of the word.

"Um," she started, staring at the ground for a moment. "I promise you, I didn't lie about the events I recall happening," she said very suddenly, looking up at him then. "What was the last thing you remembered occurring?"

Of course, she knew what was on his mind. As a great studier of character, he expected no less from her, and her immediate jump to the topic did not unnerve him as much as he suppose it should have.

Still, he felt awkward around her, even if it seemed she remembered him differently. He answered her after he had a few seconds to plan out his words. "The last event between us that I recall was that of my failed marriage proposal; I returned immediately to Rosings, after which I wrote a letter of justification, to be given to you in the morning. I laid down to sleep..." At this he paused for a moment. "And then I woke up here."

Elizabeth? One to skirt around an issue? Hardly.

"It does seem that I rather remember things differently. I daresay it strange, but given what else I've been told about this place, or," she gave a small laugh, gesturing at her journal, "these, perhaps it is plausible?"

Biting her lip for a moment, she looked up at him again, then. "I did receive your letter, after which you left Rosings, as did I. The Gardiners-- my aunt and uncle came to Longbourn and took me with them on holiday. We went to see Pemberley, because I was told you were not home, but..." a distinct flush overcame her cheeks, recalling the embarrassment she'd felt when he'd shown up after all, "you were, and... were quite civil, actually, almost warm and friendly. I met your sister, you invited me to dine with you; it was rather refreshing."

Not to mention how forthcoming and kind he'd been, compared to his almost cold reception when he handed her his letter.
