Oz still wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Break arriving had its pros and cons. At least Break was able to carry himself in any situation, and he was not the type to panic too. Besides, he was getting bored without anyone to talk to who was at least familiar with his world, though he'd rather annoy Break than have a normal chat with him (if that was even possible, as things are never normal with that old man).

Not surprisingly, Break was affected by what the islanders dubbed as different timelines of arrival. Break only came from the visit to Barma, but for him that was already weeks ago. He definitely needed to sort these things out with the Mad Hatter.

Speaking of Mad Hatter, he wondered if Break was looking for his Chain, which wouldn't exist in Rivelata at all. Luckily, he had Alice's scythe with him, even though with him carrying it as he walked along the streets with a smile on his face, it looked so awkward.

'He's definitely hiding in something again.'Oh well, at least Alice's scythe, even without its potent power ( ... )

S'okay, I was late posting it anyway. D: hattersghost August 27 2010, 04:52:49 UTC
Through the gaps in the wood that made his hiding place he watched the young Vessalius approach, noting with some surprise the presence of Alice's scythe. Strange, that he would have it here, when Alice was likely stuck back in their world. And if Alice was stuck there... well, so was the Mad Hatter. No wonder the pain in his chest had lessened to a dull, old throb.

"What have you been up to, little Oz?" he whispered to himself. Oz had certainly been doing some growing up, either here on the island, during another trip to the Abyss, or in the part of their mutual timeline that Break hadn't reached yet. Break couldn't be entirely sure Oz wasn't going to 'poke' him with that scythe, although he was certain he didn't want to find out.

It was a good thing he had his sword. Cutting out the bottom of the crate, he burrowed himself under the sand and waited for the ruckus to attract the young Contractor.

With all the surprises and dangers that this island brought, Oz found himself temporarily discarding his happy-go-lucky personality a lot, in favor of survival. This was certainly not good, because this was the side of himself that he didn't like so many people to see.

So who was the real Oz? The carefree young boy whose smiles were fake, or the dangerous Vessalius heir who has sharp senses that could see there was something off on a seemingly ordinary-looking scene?

No.

He shook his head and took a deep breath, calming himself down. He let the end of the scythe tap against the ground as held it vertically.

Sighing, he said, "Break... I know you're there. Do you really want me to hack your head by accident?"

How perceptive the boy had gotten. A shock of white hair burrowed itself form out of the sand and underneath it appeared a smile.

"Ah, there you are... it took you long enough. I had to hide my poor little self down here to make sure none of the strange little children running about didn't find me..." Xerxes Break popped himself out of the ground and opened his arms, his face expectant.

"What, no hug for your beloved advisor?"
