She was alone. Jan had to admit, he hadn't really expected that. If she was so fucking royal, dignified, all that shit, shouldn't she have an escort at all times? That type usually did, didn't they? And not only that, but she was alone and going out to meet with Jan. It either took guts or stupidity.
He'd gone by way of roof tonight. It made for a pretty damn satisfying whump when he dropped down in front of her, and he allowed himself a wide, toothy smirk as he straightened again. "All alone tonight, huh? Pretty fuckin' brave, Highness."
But no, wait, that wasn't quite right. He was supposed to be sharing information with someone that cared -- someone that might be able to do something about it. Mocking and intimidation wasn't really the right way to go about it, was it?
Ashe's sword was out of its hilt and pointed in Jan's direction as soon as she sensed his movement. She narrowed her eyes, wondering what exactly Jan was trying to pull.
"If you are attempting to intimidate me, you will fail," she said, her voice completely void of any inflection. "If you mean to attack, have at me. You will lose. If you mean to speak as we agreed, do so now, without delay. My patience with you, with this place, is wearing. Very. Thin."
He was almost tempted to take her up on that challenge so clearly fucking presented. Almost. But, no, there were better people to fuck up, people that deserved it. Namely, the king. And so Jan shifted his stance, the subtle changes taking him from aggressive and threatening to easy and a little cautious. Both hands rose in that universal pacifying gesture.
"Instinct. I ain't here to fuckin' fight -- not you, anyway." His hands went to his pockets, and a side step took him to lean against the wall of the alley. "You're interested in the king, yeah?"
The sword was sheathed at that, though Ashe kept one hand on its pommel. She didn't trust Jan enough not to, though she was fairly confident guilting him earlier about Basch would be enough to keep him in line this time.
The king? Ashe raised an eyebrow, though other than that her features stayed stone cold. That was the last person she expected someone like Jan to have information on.
"In a number of different ways, yes," she replied evenly. "What do you know?"
"I got some shit on him, let's say that." Jan's grin didn't come back, but a smile made its way onto his face. Not exactly a pleasant smile, not by any means. A little dark, a little wry. Not at all pleased. The king wasn't exactly on the top of his buddy list just at the moment, after all. "But first things first. How d'you like the guy?"
