[Kurama is staunchly refusing to look down at the box - despite his past, he's as susceptible as anyone else to a bundle of furry, mewling animals. And Kuwabara's puppy eyes are really no exception.]
Kuwabara-kun, how are you planning to take care of twelve kittens? One or two, fine, but twelve?
Of course I do! [Granted that he never raised this many pets before, but still! He's more than willing to help these little guys out.] And I can't just leave them back outside. I promise that they won't get in the way, alright?
I'm not worried about them getting in the way, Kuwabara-kun - I'm worried about how you think you can possibly take care of them all.
Think about it - they'll all need to be fed, probably by hand, and you'll have to clean up after them, and watch them to make sure they don't get hurt, and play with them to keep them occupied - how are you going to manage all of that?
[Still not looking at the box, nope - and he doesn't want to be mean, he's just being realistic. Because if Kuwabara is anything, it's always been an idealist.]
[That's....not entirely the response he'd expected.]
Wha - ? They're not my responsibility, Kuwabara-kun. If you want to keep them, you're taking care of them: I think that's only fair.
[This is what having children must feel like: attempts at logical reasoning, attempts to foist off responsibility - and underneath it all, doesn't Kurama still feel a fondness for Kuwabara and his ridiculously big heart?]
True, true. And I know I'll take care of them and I'm pretty sure that I can. But it doesn't look like you believe me. [Ha! He can be clever if he wants to. Just like that time he made that Spirit Sword Monster Beast Donut. Heh, good times.]
[But there's really no point, is there? Kurama knows he means it - that's fairly obvious just by looking in his eyes. And Kurama is not willing to lose the best friend he has in this place: nor the increasingly interesting relationship that seems to be developing between them.
He sighs, letting his head drop in defeat - and when he opens his eyes, he's looking directly at the box of kittens. And that's really the last straw, isn't it?]
YES!! [He places the box on the counter so he could tightly hug his friend- in a very grateful manly way, of course.] Thank you, Kurama! I'll seriously remember this for the rest of my life, even if someone tries to brainwash me! Weird way to put it, but it works!
[Just a day of unexpected things, isn't it? He tenses in surprise at first, but recovers quickly enough, lifting his own slim arms to return the hug.]
You're welcome, Kuwabara.
[He thinks about adding something about how Kuwabara had best live up to his promise...but he knows it won't make a difference. He's going to end up roped into this somehow, he just knows it. And he suspects he probably won't mind.
The shop does feel empty, after all - maybe these new pets will go a ways towards filling in all that empty space.]
[Kuwabara grins as he pulls away from Kurama to look at the kittens again. He should get Eikichi down here so she can see them!]
Oh yeah, I was talking so some people on my way here, and some of them are thinking about adopting a kitty, so don't worry about having a dozen full grown cats running around. [Laughs.]
But I guess that means I shouldn't name them...[He already had some ideas on his way here too!] But doesn't this little girl look like a Kiki?! [Holds up one of the grey kittens with a look of fondness.]

Do you know how much work that will take?

Hmm...you're right. [Sighs...and looks up at him again.] So you're saying you'll help me? [Griiiiin]

Bottom line though: If they go, I go. [/manly]

All right, then. They can stay.
