This was the sort of thing that Kouji probably would've done, all things considered, if Kouji was here. Which he wasn't. As Tasuki's stomach rumbled, he wondered vaguely where Kouji was. How he was doing; how everyone else was doing.

And then there was the question of what Chichiri knew, what he'd experienced, that Tasuki hadn't. Would Tasuki really have done that sort of thing, to a friend?

Shit. He just didn't know.

Keeping his eyes off the water--that much ocean was just gonna make him feel more panicked--he did his best just not to feel stupid. Last he checked, he was the only seventeen year old who had this kind of a problem. Hell, Nuriko'd been after the emperor for Suzaku-only-knew how long! And Tamahome was his age, and he already knew who he liked.

Everyone here was just obsessed! That was their problem, not Tasuki's!

"I dunno," he muttered, keeping his eyes on his feet. "Hell, I just feel like an idiot."

"Well, that's not really a good start no da," Chichiri replied, a bit concerned. Tasuki could be like this at times, but as soon as he worked out whatever was bothering him he went right back to his cheerful, rambunctious self. The monk just smiled and looked up at the sky, then reached up to take his mask off.

"Let's start with the basics, then," he invited. "What do you know about caring for someone no da?"

"O....oi!" Tasuki started, on the defensive, cheeks growing hot. Maybe it was easy for some people to talk about things so simply, but it just wasn't like that for him! And it wasn't just 'cause of his sisters--traumatizing as they'd been, they weren't exactly the source of this problem. And what the hell was this problem, anyway?!

He just couldn't articulate it.

"I care about a lotta people," he settled on finally, looking out towards the sea--momentarily distracted from one fear by another. "I care a lot about a lotta people!"

Chichiri frowned slightly. Tasuki was more than just a little ruffled, apparently, and he gave himself a mental smack for not realizing it.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "I didn't mean it that way. I know you care about a lot of people."

He looked up at the sky, as though it might give him the right words to say. "I just meant, in this situation... you seemed very upset at the idea of being set up with someone."

"Hell yeah I was!" he said, a little louder than was strictly necessary. Then again, he was always a little louder than was strictly necessary. Everybody knew it; Nuriko never failed to call him on it. Kouji too. And Chichiri...

Well, Chichiri was just the kinda guy who forgave people for stuff. For whatever reasons. He was just a good guy.

"Guess it's just all the teasing! I mean...I never thought about it before. Just makes me uncomfortable, I guess."

It made him think about all the people he cared for--maybe cared for too much--all at once. He didn't even know how to sort out what was what.
