This is so stupid, said Kaylee's common sense to the rest of her brain. Oh it ain't THAT high up... she thought as she peered over edge of the shop awning she'd managed to clamber atop.
Once she'd gotten over the initial heebie-jeebies from the sensations of her costume, she'd started experimenting with whatever feedback mechanism made her able to control it. Being that she could now flap the wings without having to wave her arms around like a damn fool, she was itchin' to see if she could actually achieve flight. The mechanic in her screamed NO!!! but the childhood dreams and an implacable curiosity urged her to at least try.
"Here goes nothin'," she muttered, biting back a nervous giggle threatening to well up and ruin her concentration. Fixing her eyes on the horizon, she brought her sandalled feet to the awning's edge, took a good springing leap, and--
--and her wings started flapping, and she could feel the wind rushing through her hair! And her feathers! Oh sweet lord, this must be just a taste of what Serenity felt when she

Seven stopped short as the humanoid creature--was it a human?--landed on the ground in front of her, bewildered. Obviously, whatever this being was, it was incapable of flight.
The bio-scanner in her optical implant indicated that the female was indeed Human, the unfamiliar and bright clothing that seemed to serve no real purpose had thrown off Seven's initial observations.
Spitting out some grit, Kaylee brushed the dirt from her face and noticed a pair of legs next to her.
"Sorry, didn't see ya there. Must given you a...uh..." The words left her, got scared away as her widening eyes traveled up and up and took in the nightmarish sight before her. Reaver.
The scream was clawing inside her chest, but she couldn't get it out. And through her terror, some details of the legends started to break through. Didn't the stories all say they wore human skins? This thing, whatever it was, had tech on it. Reavers desecrated themselves with hooks and other crude instruments...they hadn't the minds to augment. And, though Kaylee was almost more frightened than relieved by this, it had a face she recognized.
Yet another who knew her. Seven was incredibly confused by this point--she'd never met anyone for a prolonged timeframe that wasn't either already part of the Collective, or shortly destined to be. Much less anyone Human. Though the body had once been from that species, that had been years ago.
"...our designation is Seven of Nine."
'Hi, my name's Annika! What's yours?' Shocked by the dim, fragmented memory, Seven's remaining organic eye closed to better facilitate concentration. She pushed the memory away, it was irrelevant.

"S-Seven?" she managed to squeak.
