Emil was lying on his bed as he heard a knock on the door. He had been thinking about everything-- the recent earthquakes, why Ratatosk didn't talk to him anymore.. Ah, he didn't want to continue. That knock on the door was precisely what he needed to divert his attention from his own raging thoughts.
Jumping swiftly off the bed, Emil crossed the room in three long strides and opened to door, only to reveal the ninja, Hotsuma. Emil grinned widely. He always looked forward to seeing Hotsuma. The more he hung out with Hotsuma, the more Emil felt at home, surprisingly.
Punctual. Hotsuma appreciated that. The brown eyes beneath that hat brim lightened. "Emil. It's good to see you." he returned warmly. "I thought you may have dined already, but I hope you won't mind this just the same." One of his hands vanished beneath his cloak and returned with a palm-size chicken sandwich, the last piece of his quick lunch.
Gaaaah omg sorry for the late reply had to go for dinner!d0uble_edgedSeptember 5 2009, 14:04:56 UTC
"Thank you!" Emil did already have his lunch, but Hotsuma's sandwich was much appreciated by him just the same. After all, he was already pretty hungry.
Aw that's ok. Don't wanna take Saturday night away from anyone. ;DsustaintheswordSeptember 6 2009, 01:38:11 UTC
Hotsuma was already unrolling a sheaf of paper. He showed it to Emil. Scrawled on it was an itemized list of addresses and descriptions of various potential homes. They ranged from the simple but functionally complete houses that middle-class familes lived in, to the spacious condominiums that the border-line wealthy got to avail of.
"I pulled these from several housing ads across town. We have many good options of course, but I wanted your input on narrowing this list down to something we'd both want." A pause. "Most of these have a 12-month installment plan with reasonable interest. Good enough for what the Nest if earning, so price is no object. Are you up for a visit to the Housing District?"
Emil grinned. As he slowly walked along with Hotsuma, he surveyed all the addresses. They were all very nice places, and in actual fact, Emil didn't really have an opinion as to which one they should choose. As long as it was cozy and a place to call home, Emil was more than satisfied.
"Say, Hotsuma.. Which one do you prefer?" asked Emil.
Again that ghost of a smile. There were only two people so far who could coax that out of the ninja. Emil was one of them. "I'm a man of simple means. You know that. But that doesn't make me incapable of coming through for my partner."
Yes. Partner. No matter what they settled on, Emil would be holding joint ownership of the home with him.
"What do you make of..." They rounded a corner and cut through an alley. When they came out the other end into a wider residential block, Hotsuma draped an arm around the lad's shoulders. His free hand pointed straight ahead of them.
Hotsuma crossed his arms to hide the grin he felt coming. It wasn't perfect of course; this house had been standing for awhile and it showed. Bits and pieces of crumbled masonry marked where the ravages of time had landed. But even if Emil noticed he didn't seem to mind. His delight was apparent. And very contagious.
"Nothing a year's worth of monthly payments won't shoulder. On what the Nest is earning, they'll be just right." He placed a hand of his own on one of the walls. "The landlord owns a few more like this across the island. Maintaining them all proved more costly than he thought, so he was very happy to put this one up for sale at a discount. And a low interest rate to match."
He tipped his hat back and let it fall to his shoulders. His eyes smiled for his young friend. "We can have a look inside if you wish."
((OOC: Hey, feel free to add details as you see fit. ^_^))
Without even waiting for an answer, Emil pushed the door open gently. The house had obviously been vacant for a long time-- there was a musty smell in the air. Despite that, Emil loved every part of the house. The interior of the house had a rustic theme to it, and was very cozy. The furniture could definitely use some repairing, but, all in all, it was a beautiful house.
Exactly what he'd thought. A pleased sort of jolt shot touched the shinobi. That surprised him. "I'm told that living room can hold ten people comfortably. Plenty for guests and any future residents."
He resisted the urge to unwind right there on the sofa and showed Emil the kitchen range. The space provided for meals preparation was more than decent, but dusty. He stifled a cough with his scarf. "You and I have some work to do when we move in."
The kitchen window showed where the door led to; a little space at the back of the garden that was clearly meant for laundry to be carried out. The rest of the ground floor was dedicated to a bathroom, a dining room, and a larger room lined with empty shelves and boxes.
Hotsuma couldn't help but stare at this one. It was perfect as a storage room for his figurines.

Emil slowly walked across the lawn to the house itself. He ran a hand on the walls, then turned around to Hotsuma and grinned.
"This house is really pretty! And it looks really cozy too!" said Emil, excited. "But.. won't it be too expensive?" he added as an afterthought.
