Kurama smiled, the stem of the apple pinched between the first two fingers of his right hand, bent slightly at the waist in order to hold the fruit at just the right height.
"Hungry?" he asked casually. After a moment, he continued. "Though, if you're anything like I think you are, it won't matter. You wouldn't take the apple, even if you were starving."
Kurama nodded, having rather anticipated the response, and sat beside the samurai, apple cradled gently in his hands, turning out to look at the ocean.
"Only what I've managed to pick up from rifling back through entries in these journals," he answered, taking his from where he'd tucked it into his sash and giving it a few lazy waves. "Sea monsters, and the like."
He cast a sideways glance towards his companion. "You remind me a little of someone I knew back home."
"Mm." Jin took this as an invitation to snatch the apple from Kurama's rather casual, unsuspecting grasp--his arm was so fast it almost made the SWISH sound of a sword.
Then he threw the apple into the sea. Very far into the sea.

"Do you know anything about these waters?" he said, instead. His tone was dead serious, as if this was the only matter he could think about.

The rest of Jin's statement registered a moment later.
"And just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist."
