This is what you get for making big brother worry de_novo_xiii July 20 2009, 02:32:53 UTC
Kuja preened his outfit habitually as he made his way to Zidane and Garnet. He took nothing with him save for a small pouch strapped to his belt, containing tiny sugar vials filled with potions. Everything else, his magic would care for. Too much power laying dormant in his veins made him antsy and he was glad a new venture lay ahead. It never suited him to stay idle for long.

Tail swishing in anticipation, Kuja spotted the house ahead. He also spotted his brother, though an outsider would see little resemblance between them save for their eyes. Kuja pursed his lips, feeling the irritation flood his senses. Did he have any idea how worried Kuja had been? Kuja? The Genome who cared for no one? Storming over to the younger Genome, Kuja wasted no time at all in scolding him. Or at least trying to.

"You!" The single word was all he could manage before he slapped him hard, leaving a red print on Zidane's left cheek.

The promise of adventure was always exciting, but she couldn't help the feeling of uncertainty and distrust that welled up within her. Kuja had killed her Mother. He'd done terrible things. Had she really come so close to forgiving him for everything? Not to mention, entrusting him with her Eidolon. Hers. It had taken her so long to discover her birthright. Did she want to risk it all?

Zidane trusted him, and she supposed he'd always been good at that-- at seeing the good in people. Despite everything Kuja had said, and despite what he had done in the past, being here in Rivelata ... was a fresh start. Garnet very rarely admitted it, but Kuja had done so much for her here.

Perhaps she could trust him, too. A little.

She finished gathering what few necessities she had and quietly descended the stairs, determined to gather her wits and courage about herself before she hit the floor. It wasn't the trip she feared, but the decision she'd made and the uncertain outcomes.

'It's an adventure. Whatever happens, happens' she thought to ( ... )

"He - "

His head snapped to the side from the force of the slap, and Zidane knew he would feel the sore spot on his cheek for hours afterward. But he shrugged, reaching a hand up to rub the back of his head.

"I guess I kinda deserve that, huh?" To be honest, he half-expected Dagger to do the same thing - but then again, she was almost always more gentle with him when Kuja was around, as that worried tone in her voice reminded him.

At the sound of his brother's name, he turned to greet the princess, flashing her one of his "it's alright" grins.

"Aw, it's just brotherly affection, don't worry. Are you ready to go?"

He glared at him for good measure before looking over his shoulder at Garnet. The Genome gave her a lazy look-over, smiling faintly as he reacquainted himself with her beauty. She was a marvel, wasn't she? Fluffing his hair nonchalantly, he finally turned to her.

"There you are Princess. Don't mind us it's just, as Zidane so eloquently put it-" Kuja grinned, "-brotherly affection."

Back to business. Kuja crossed his arms, putting his weight on one leg idly as he cocked his head.
"Long journey ahead, completely uncharted to all three of us." He began, before inspecting his nails. "My energy reserves are at full capacity so I hope Bahamut is well-rested. If by some small, completely unlikely chance my magic falters..."

"I am going to-" need you, "have to draw from your strength." Kuja nodded to his brother. "And you, Princess, will have to steady him."

"Now. Shall we?"

She nodded in reply to Zidane's question, watching Kuja with an almost scrutinizing gaze. Brotherly affection, sure. She couldn't help feeling, though, that he'd done what she'd only thought of doing. She'd slapped Zidane for less, in fact. Perhaps what irritated her was not the fact that he had been slapped, but the fact that Kuja had done it.

Garnet averted her gaze as Kuja went on, and only managed to catch a good half of what he was saying. She knew what to expect, what to prepare for: Everything. Exploring any uncharted territory in Rivelata was rarely an event full of happy endings, but the thrill of it all, and of discovering something new for herself? Well, that was all worth it.

Without another word, she quietly slipped by the two to wait on the sidewalk. She was ready to go, and would follow behind their lead. "I am well prepared for this, Kuja." Garnet shifted her weight and shook the hair from her face as a gentle smile curved her lips. "Let's go!"
