Well... I've seen plenty of not-so-smart people around. ...I work with a lot of them, actually. Guys who go around calling themselves 'The Pranksmen' while wearing fedoras with purple feathers sticking out of them.
That sounds very... distinguished. I have two comrades who considered themselves pranksters, of sorts... they're rivalry on and off the battle field was a fierce on in it's stupidity.
If those persons of your world do not need to carry a weapon, it makes sense that you would be so ill-prepared. If they simply do not know better, your alarm is equally explained. Have I spoken out of turn?
