Who: Roy, Jason and a kitten stuck in a tree Ofelia What: Monsters. Roy and Jason kicking ass. Ofelia up a tree. Fun times for all Where: In the park When: after the monsters start showing up.
A gunshot cracked through the air. The insane fanged monstrosity in leotard and shortpants screamed, writhed, and very obligingly fuzzed out of existence like a network channel on a bad signal. But unlike the last four insane fanged monstrosities in skimpy clothing and metal tentacles, this one turned into a car.
A nice car. For all that it was crunching nosefirst into the ground underneath the screaming tree.
Still.
"Jesus christ," Roy demanded of no-one in particular. "Is it like this here every other month!?"
As if in answer, the car teetered backward in a groan of twisting metal and came to rest heavily on the trunk. The whole tree swayed and bent under the weight.
"Man, what a waste of a good car." Jason landed a little way away from Roy, jumping out of a completely different tree and bouncing up out of his crouch quickly. He was just a tad blood splattered, smiling grimly and just a little obviously excited. He hadn't had a really good fight since he'd gotten here, and this influx of mindless monsters was just what the doctor ordered.
"Not to mention, a waste of a really killer set of legs." He grinned wolfishly - he himself had been running into creatures with much less attractive... bodywork. Heh.
...It was...dead? And the tree swayed sickeningly under her and there were familiar voices. She was shaking, but Ofelia shifted herself carefully along the branches, peering out around the leaves at the two men.
"Hello?" Still a little too shook up to use English, she paused and took a steadying breath, "...Hello?"
Roy cut himself off from telling Jason maybe the most hypocritical thing he'd said this year, whipping around to pick out girl from tree in his sharp-eyed gaze. "... Ofelia!?"
He was bounding up over the car in the next second, almost running down the tree branches in an excess of adrenalin and paternal instinct. "Jesus, Ofelia, are you hurt!?" He didn't quite sweep her up in his arms - for one thing, she'd have to let go of the branch - but it was a near thing.
Two little girls in peril in two days. Was the multiverse determined to-- and yet, the thought didn't bring the kind of pang it normally would. He put it down to the rush of the fight, and focused so much on swinging around to a place where Ofelia could simply fall into his catch that he didn't notice the rustling of the branches far above.

Yeah, the effects of the flare were nothing short of creepy thanks to the combination of melting shadows and lack of sound. At least it put a dent in the numbers pursuing them, and with a few more well-placed hits, all signs of pursuit disappeared. This was, of course, no reason to relax or stop running.
The slightly unseasonal and localised banks of fog that were rolling in around them might be a reason to slow down so as not to go running blindly into anything, though. Be it monster or trash can.
"Looks like you could be right, there." Jason kept a sharp eye on the darker areas around them, just in case. "I've got a bad feeling about the sudden change in weather."
As if on cue, a voice came through the fog, sounding like it was coming from all sorts of different points around them as it spoke - in a very familiar tone.
"In the end, I was always disappointed in my second try at a partner."
Bruce - no, Batman. Jason's breath caught in his throat and his expression instantly darkened, but the voice continued as if it didn't even

Whatever relief she had felt at the disappearance of the shadows faded completely when the voice started talking. Ofelia shivered and huddled closer to Roy as Jason yelled at the thing in fog.
"Oh, what the fuck is this," Roy muttered, hopefully too low (in immediate but brief retrospect) for Ofelia to hear. He holstered the crossbow and crouched, rolled his shoulders, wordlessly letting the girl down. There was no telling where the first shot would come from- she was safest on the ground between them, with him free to move quick and get at all his arsenal. He drew his long bow.
And scowled at the next words out of the mist. "Yeah, I second that," he called out, a thin veneer of nonchalance barely overlaying the anger. "Let's cut the bullshit and get down to brass tacks."
There was an arrow on the string. All he needed was a target.
The figure that walked out of the fog was... Jason, down to the swagger in the way he walked and the nasty smirk on his face, except that he had faintly glowing yellow eyes just barely visible behind the red domino mask, and a heavy-feeling blue aura of energy drifting around him. The real Jason tensed up and muttered, "The hell is this, now?"
"I'm surprised you're still sticking around me, Roy - but then, I didn't tell you about my little play date with Ollie and the second Speedy just so you wouldn't leave me like everyone else."
The glowing Jason smirked bitterly as Jason yelled at him to shut up.
"For all I pretend to be okay alone, I really hate being abandoned and forgotten - kind of ended badly the last time. But as long as I'm the one pushing everyone away, at least I'm in control of them leaving. I should just get on and do that here, too. Everything will go back to how it was at home, where no-one knew me, no-one trusted me, even my so-called family. And why should they? I made them think that I hated them, would never
