Just because it was his night off didn't mean Tim slept all that much. He'd always been a light sleeper by habit, and the last couple years' worth of training had just sharpened his sensitivity.
It might've been the star over his own head winking out. It might've been growing light outside or the air changing or anything, really. But the fact was he was awake, dressed, and half-out the window when the flash hit.
He kept to the shadows and moved fast, forgoing the rooftops-in-civvies risk at least for nighttime. Once was enough. Besides, he was headed out of town - off to the beach again, where the thing had come down like a meteorite. Or a crash-landing.
Thus occupied, the boy rounded a corner and slipped right into a shadow that was already occupied. He caught his breath and his move just before bumping into Ofelia - that would've just been embarassing.
"Hey." he greeted softly, right behind her. No reason to stop moving, right?
She didn't quite jump out of her skin, but it was a near thing. She turned sharply and... relaxed when she saw who it was. "Stevie..." She smiled, "Hello. Are you going to see the star as well?"
She shook her head, her eyes going back up to the sky. "I knew it was over the beach, but I did not see it land." Ofelia looked back at Stevie, eyes big with curiosity, "What do you think it was? It was such a beautiful thing."
"It could be all kinds of things!" Tim glanced up too- whoa, shooting stars. Masses of 'em. Must be blocking out all the light from the normal ones. "Space is big. There's a lotta people out there."
He pointed at a few of the bigger streaks. "Whatever it was, I think it broke off some pieces on the way down."
"Oh, yeah." he assured her, grinning broad and turning to walk backwards. C'mon, c'mon, they don't wanna miss it. "Aliens. All kinds. Back where I'm from, a shooting star like that? Means somebody probably crash-landed."
He gestured a little. "Or they came that way on purpose. But usually then they just hover and say hi." All... two times that had happened.
She has to run a bit to catch up, still wide eyed. "Have you met them before, Stevie? Aliens, si? Where were they from?" Her accent thickened with her excitement, "Do you think that was an alien?"
Well, Robin had-- "Not personally," he laughed, "but one of 'em's really famous. He's super-strong and he's a hero, and he crash-landed on Earth just like that." Or so the story went. "Everybody calls him Superman. He's from a planet way way WAY far off- or he was, it's not there anymore."
Broad gesturing, at least until he remembered they were supposed to be keeping quiet. But tonight it didn't seem to matter - he guessed from all the lights on in windows that they weren't the only ones woken up.
"Bet it was," he told her, serious as could be with all that anticipation on his face. "Bet it was their spaceship."
Her eyes were wide, listening intently. She had never even heard of such a thing before, it sounded so amazing. "Let's go see!" And it took her a minute to realize she had spoken in Spanish in her excitement, "Let's go see them! Do you think it will be like the Superman?"

"Seems like the thing to do," he responded, coming up beside her and keeping up the pace. "Didja see it land? I think it came down on the beach."
