WHO: Shibuya Yuuri (harajuku_fuuri) and his mother (hamanojennifer) WHAT: Yuuri wants his mommy. WHERE: Upstairs at the Crimson Dragon WHEN: After Yuuri's dinner with Kuja and Soubi.
Closing the door behind her, Jennifer smiled broadly. Very few adult men would have actually gone quietly to her nurturing, but without her son around, she'd felt obligated to do some good for him.
However, when she caught sight of Yuuri, she completely forgot about the hungover-man and his headache.
"YUU-CHAAAAAN!" She cried and ran to him, pulling him into a hug from off the top stair.
"GAH!" Yuuri nearly toppled backwards down the stairs as his mother pounced upon him in what he could only think to call 'glomping.' He found his face buried in her shoulder and twisted a little to get away.
"Mother..." he mumbled into her shirt, but suddenly, everything hit him at once. Waking up panicked because he was underwater, swimming and swimming for shore long after he felt his arms go numb, walking everywhere with two men he didn't even know, and now...
Before he could stop himself, he choked out a sob.
"Call me-" But she was cut off by her crying boy. "Oh my Yuu-chan, whatever is wrong?" It had been... well a long time since he'd broken down in front of her. She knelt on the ground, holding him closer and petting his head. "Did something happen to you? If that Kuja was lying to me..."
He felt like he had become five years old again, although he knew scraped knees and grass stains were a lot easier to take care of than an emotional breakdown.
"'M sorry," he mumbled, wiping his eyes. He was not going to cry here, not now. "I feel really useless. I don't know what to do to make everything better."
"Yuu-chan, whatever do you mean?" She kept petting his head and massaging his back. "What things are you trying to fix? I'm sure if you put your mind to it you can come up with something..."
Truth be told she really had no clue what was going on. She hadn't been reading the journals and she'd only just arrived not too long ago, but her son was upset and not-knowing had never stopped her mothering before.
The touch felt good. Yuuri squeezed his eyes shut and leaned into her embrace.
His words came out almost in a huge run-on sentence. "Kuja said we're in a different world and can't go back and a bunch of people got captured and one of them was just killed for no reason and there's a queen but I can't talk to her and what good is being Maou if I can't HELP ANYONE?!" The last few words came out higher-pitched than he intended.
Jennifer let out a sigh. "I did hear something about that..." She started combing her fingers now, not just petting the hair, then she kissed the top of his head where his hairline and forehead met. "You're going to have to calm down for starters, Yuu-chan. I don't know about all this other-world stuff, but it shouldn't matter, right? It's terrible that you couldn't help that one person and we can pray for his peace in the afterlife, but that was unfortunately probably set in motion long before we arrived, sweetheart."
She picked his chin so he'd look at her, then used that hand to brush away the tears in his eyes with her thumb. "Being the Maou doesn't mean you have power wherever you go - it's acting a certain way and I most certainly raised you better than these people. If you put your mind to it, I'm certain you'll come up with something."
Sure, it was easy enough to say, but Yuuri still had a long way to go before he became an effective diplomat. It was harder still to be diplomatic when the other party didn't even bother to respond to you.
"I don't want anyone else to have to suffer," he said after a while. "I worked so hard for that in Shin Makoku and everyone here is miserable. And I don't think I can do it all by myself... what about everyone else? What about-?"
He couldn't even bring himself to finish. Wolfram was right. He was a wimp, after all.
Jennifer very quickly ushered her son into the room that unlocked with her key. Looking around, she nodded approvingly at the modest furnishings. "This will have to do for now..." she mumbled.
"All right, Yuu-chan, you stay here and I'll go inform the nice innkeeper that we'll be staying here and get plenty of extra blankets! Wood walls are sure to be extremely drafty!"
With that, she hurried out of the room and downstairs.
Finally, the flurry of excitement that was Yuuri's mother had left, and he could settle down in the room. There was a small wooden desk across from one of the beds, so Yuuri sat down at it and opened up the journal. Most of the messages he'd left were still unanswered, so he read a few things that were going on before deciding to write a message to Kuja.

He was so helpless by himself, and he hated it.

Perhaps a bath was still in order, as well.
[OOC: That's it for this thread.]
