Kisa laughed brightly as she slipped her hand into his strong grip. "That's right!"
Shading one hand over her eyes, she looked around herself. The docks were full of life as per usual, the fishermen and merchants present along with the latest batch of arrivals. After inspecting the map, she pointed in the proper direction. "It's this way, silly Nii-chan." Giggling, she looked up at him with mischief and adoration in her eyes.
The docks soon gave way to the Boardwalk and the Boardwalk led to the city of Rivelata. She gestured all around her. "This is where I've been living for so long now."
Hatsuharu looked around, his expression barely wavering as they moved from the bustling docks, onto the boardwalk and then to the city. He certainly seemed to be taking it all in, and he nodded attentively at Kisa's words.
After they had walked for a little while, the blond holding tight to the girls little hand, he finally ventured;
"How long, Kisa...? How long have you lived here now...?" There was the slightest undercurrent of pain to the question, guilt that he hadn't been there for her.

She had to pause and comb through her memories to answer that. Memories she would rather not revisit mentally, since so much loss clung to them. By no means was she left to fend for herself, but even though people cared for her they had connections with others that ran far deeper than the one they had with her. So in a sense, except for a brief period, she truly was 'alone'.
"A year and two days now." Kisa answered quietly, hand tightening in his as she stared at her shoes. She avoided eye contact, reluctant for him to see just how frightened some of the days had been without her family.
"But people looked after me and I helped them and worked hard too." Hurriedly she added, biting her lip. "I tried not to be useless."

"Oh, Kisa..." Hatsuharu said gently, pulling her closer to his side and holding her there. "I really am sorry you had to go through all that... I know how scared you must have been. You were brave to do your best."
He paused for a long moment. Two boys ran past them, kicking a ball back and forth, and he watched them go before he continued.
"Don't ever think of yourself as useless... Negative thoughts only end up making themselves true. You are you, and I, personally, wouldn't have it any other way."
She had craved words of encouragement for so long and receiving them from him, of all people, made it all the more special. Kisa would be alright now, she knew it without a doubt.
Wrapping her arms around his, she nuzzled against his side as they walked through the town. Careful to stick to the sidewalk so no embarrassing transformations would occur, the trip to the pizzeria took them a little longer than it would have for an ordinary citizen. The Curse was a burden of course, but at least she once again had someone to share its troubles with.
"There it is!" She pointed excitedly, giggling. "I've never been there before."
