Matt wasn't really sure he wanted to do this. He should just go back and try and get more information from the priest or General Cross or something...but, Matt was, mostly, a man of his word. He rubbed his shoulder, resisting the urge to grab a cigarette--Christ, it's gonna suck when I run out--and continued down to the docks ( ... )

The sound of boots resounding against the cold asphalt was partially muffled by the sea waves. Mello hadn't been having a good day, and he wasn't sure that this meeting alone was bound to change this fact. He'd wished that the next time he and Near met after four years, it would be right after his victory. Just a step away from it, he'd been pulled to a world that so far looked completely unrelated to his own. No trace of Kira could be found, not even that name rang a bell here. Near was a lucky, really lucky bastard ( ... )

Whilst the mask, unlike the L-esque one he had back home, allowed him to see, Near doesn't so much as glance at Matt, nor Mello when they speaks; whilst they may not have spoken much, the fact that he was one of three people in Rivelata that knew his alias beyond a single letter was enough to let him onto the fact that this was, in fact, his rival, plus his partner-in-crime. He just smirked at the redhead's(?) remark, having heard that particular one far too many times in the past.

"... yes. Presumably so, although I have had difficulty in locating an exact date, and the weather seems to be fairly constant." Near tensed a little as he spoke to Mello, obviously much more on-edge about speaking to him than he was to Matt, even if there was no evidence of that in his voice. "And you are correct Mello, though it was unnecessary for you to announce your presence."

Matt surpressed a grin. "You should dress up everyday. Something new each day. There's some kid here who likes to sew."

He glanced at Mello and practically felt the air thicken. Mello looked ready to eat babies. He glanced back at Near, who sounded indifferent. He twitched for a cigarette. Almost, he said something, and then stopped himself. Near and Mello were the rivals here, let them do their thing, get it out of their systems.
