He nearly jumped at Youji's touched, stifling his tears as he raised his head to look at his friend. His eyes stung and his cheeks and nose burned with the weight of his emotional distress, but try as he might to calm himself down, it wasn't happening. To have lost Ken the way that they had-- to have seen him, to have been unable to do anything for him, it was.... It was....

"Youji," he said softly through his tears, his inability to calm his emotions only upsetting him further. He needed to be strong. Why did this place cause so much grief?

He looked down to his quill, and then to his open journal beside it. "He's not coming back this time."

"Kinda figured," Youji said, leaning back and sticking a cigarette between his lips. It still haunted him, how he'd found Ken just lying in an alleyway behind their house. How had neither he nor Omi heard any kind of a struggle? Who had done this?

"Do you think it was Schwarz?"

"No," he stated flatly, averting his gaze to the tabletop. "I don't think so." Sighing, he wiped at his wet cheeks and straightened his posture. What motivation would they have had? Weiss hardly posed a threat to them here, and it hardly seemed as though they had much in the way of plans, anyway. Since arriving in Rivelata, it had seemed as though the two teams had become but shadows of their former selves. Schwarz had become a child's toy against the likes of the other villains here, and Weiss sat on the backburner to Batman and his crew.

Why would they have done something like this?

"I'm not sure who else would have done it. I know there are vampires here and other supernatural creatures-- and run-of-the-mill psychotics. Pinpointing will be ... difficult."

"He had a lot of wounds," Youji said, voice evident that he was trying to distance himself from the situation emotionally. "But none on his neck, which would rule out some sort of vampire.

"But we can't just let his murderer run around free!"

"We're not going to...." As hard as it would be, they needed to treat this like any other mission. They would find the culprit, and they would take care of them-- swiftly and dangerously. Ken's death would be avenged. "Was there anything suspicious on his person? Any ... relics? Anything that would make someone want to target him? ...Ah, I wonder if the crystal would have anything to do with it?" Pausing, he ran his hand through his hair and sighed. 'Deep breaths, Omi.' For a moment, he looked as though he might lose it again.

"If you can remember anything....?"
