Things were easier when he could just hear what was happening--eavesdrop over the stupid connection they had--when he didn't have to go and be with those people just to know what was going on.
He'd been up all night practicing: the same move, over and over again, until his hands cramped and his feet slipped and he was on the verge of collapsing and past that, until the sun rose, until his body failed him, and there was no answer. Nothing. Every muscle ached, every joint throbbed, and he wouldn't be in any shape to do anything--forget all those other useless idiots, now that he was the most useless of all!
But Asch wasn't going. He was staying where he was, he was going to try again, or he was going to do some investigating, or he...
...he was going to go.

Once he stepped in, he sighed in relief : after such a long uncomfortable journey crowned by hours sitting on a pier with a talking diary he was pleasantly surprised to see that at least one thing might actually go right. He made his way to Luke, looking a bit more rumpled than usual, a few stray strands of hair sticking out, his eyeglasses slightly askew.
"Well, well... wonders never cease!"

Every since he had found himself a place to stay; he'd done just that: stayed there, not even going out to find Luke. He had the journal to play with, and it also helped him keep an eye on his red-headed charge, so he hadn't faced any problems... But now he was needed, and so he would come.
Catching his breath, and straighten his clothes, he made his way to Luke, offering a smile. "I see you haven't gotten yourself killed yet."

Luckily, Guy had come in right after Jade, preventing Luke's ire from rising to the point where he'd start being ornery. They wouldn't get anywhere that way.
Luke lifted his hand in greeting, waving his friend over. "Guy! Guy, over here!"

He pulled up a chair and sat down heavily, gesturing for the Innkeeper. "My old bones just aren't meant to undertake such lengthy travels at sea anymore!"

He shouldn't have come here; why did he come here? He wanted to do something--kick the side of the building, beat his hand against the window, even storm off, just to show them. He didn't need them, just like they didn't need him.
But. But. Something held him in place, standing outside. So long as they didn't see him there, watching--maybe he could make out what they were saying.
