It was strange. Being weak. Being practically human again, but with no soul.

It was disappointing, that bit. It would be difficult to do what he needed to like this, to hunt, to drink, to kill... to torture. For some vampires, the hunt and the drink and the kill were enough. But Angelus was different. Angelus was an artist of suffering, a connoisseur of sadism. To him, William's way of doing things, most vampires' ways of doing things were like renting a cheap whore out for the night. It did the job, but there was no pride in it, no beauty, no romance.

And that was exactly why he was going to keep letting the Slayer believe he was Angel, that he was almost completely weak and human. Because, for what she had done to him, made him human, made him weak, made him die, she deserved to suffer as no other had suffered before, no one, not even Drusilla. He would take her to the breaking point again and again and again, holding her at the very tip before leaving her to drag herself back-- and she would, as she always did, for she was the ( ... )

He was cautious, it seemed like he was afraid of getting too close. And Buffy could understand that. She'd had her own hesitations as well, feeling like she was walking on eggshells near him. Sure, they'd left their relationship in the graveyard, or so she thought. But they didn't bury it deep enough ( ... )

Easy. She, like every human, was made weak by her soul, by her love. And that would be why she lost. Because she wanted so badly for him to be Angel, wanted so badly for her long-lost lover to come back to her, for thing to be the way they were, the way she imagined they could be that she'd overlook any little flaws, any minor mistakes at least until it was too late. And then, well... it was too late ( ... )

Buffy glanced back at him, her expression quizzical, her brows furrowed in obvious confusion. "Hell dimension? More like..another world. Another universe too, maybe. I know it doesn't make much sense but right now we should get you inside." she grabbed his hand, hurrying through the streets, racing against the sun that was continually gaining on them.

She stopped, unlocked the door and stepped inside immediately, forgetting that he needed an invite to enter. It seemed so long ago that she'd ever had to do this. "Oh. Um. You're invited in." Buffy still felt awkward, felt like something was out of place- it was a nagging feeling in her gut, but pushed that all down with a small smile.

Now that he was allowed to enter, she lead him to her room, sitting down on the bed. "Angel- what's the last thing you remember?"

Had he come from the hell dimension that she'd thrown him in?

Buffy didn't want to think about that.

It was... strange, being so slow again, and, in turn, seeing the Slayer so slow. Well, at least whatever was suppressing his own abilities had taken away hers, too. It wouldn't do, not at all, to have her stronger and faster than him in every way. Admittedly, it wasn't as good as him having his powers and her being without hers, but, well. Being rid of that blasted soul, how much more could he really ask for? A level playing field would be enough-- as long as they beat the sun ( ... )
