It was strange.

What the Medicine Seller knew was that she was shinigami, a God of Death - no, the God of Death, and how he knew he knew not. It was a feeling in his heart, perhaps - just as surely as he was aware of Her siblings. It was as in a dream, in a way, and how he knew was as irrelevant as his name.

It felt right.

And that was enough.

He arrived with the usual sound of jingling bells, stepping over the threshold. He stood in the entrance for a few seconds, seeming to speak to himself, his lips moving but no sound coming out.

She turned to the entrance at the sound, smiling wide and raising an arm to wave him over to her table - but she had to quirk an eyebrow at his lips. She had enough experience with witches and faeries who liked incantations more than strictly necessary, and usually things muttered under the breath were incantations, curses, or prayers spoken out loud to basically the same effect.

But somehow it didn't offend or intimadate or worry; he'd named himself as her servant, after all. Besides, if he was anything like her brother - and she had already assumed he was - then he was the type to think to himself out loud, which wasn't nearly as dangerous as the other three.

As she called him over, it dawned on her that she didn't know his name. Well, she'd figure it out by and by - or, at least, come up with one.

"'Rui," she said, and decided that for now that would do. "Over here."

He crossed the room and sat across from her, folding his legs under his knees and placing his hands on his thighs, back straight, the traditional Japanese way of sitting. He took off his medicine chest carefully, setting it next to him.

"Hello, my lady," he said, inclining his head in a slight bow. "It is an honor."

She sat up, legs crossed Indian-style as she nodded to him, an amused smile playing across her lips at his formality.

"You can relax, you know," she said, setting her teacup down on the table alongside her elbow, her chin leaning into her hand. "What's your poison, 'Rui? You seem like a Jasmine type of guy, but I could be wrong. Never know around here, anyway."

She looked over his face, his strange markings, the strange way his hair fell exactly between his eyes. Death would've remembered a man like this. But she didn't. Still, he knew her, and if she was going to try and get her knowledge back, he was probably a good place to start.

"What do you know about me? That's really what I want to know. I lost a lot when I came here, and I've really got to get it back."
