Galatea was not the only one who had never experienced Halloween before. Nala, a lioness from Africa who had also never even seen humans in her life before Rivelata, was in the same boat.

As a result, she was currently nosing around the area too. Only, the nosing around part was literal.

To be honest, though, Nala had come to learn that she could not speak to most humans outside the journals; so she tended to avoid them in person. She didn't want them to think she was dangerous! Being a carnivore didn't make her blood thirsty. She just hoped that the humans would understand that and learn to co-exist with her ( ... )

"It is rather strange, isn't it?" Mogget purred, leaping down from the post he'd been sitting on. "I can't say I've heard of any festivals quite like this before. The decorations are rather garish."

Really, no one in his world celebrated the dead, at least not quite in this manner. There were rites, but more so in the interest of the living than otherwise, and spending the last few centuries serving the family tasked with keeping the dead dead sort of removed any excitement from the subject.

Cats.
A large one, likely a lion, and a talking housecat. The lion was of some concern, but outside of the inherent oddness of a lion prowling the streets, it seemed normal enough. Galatea was hardly bothered by it unless it decided to pounce.

The cat was another matter. It was talking, for one, but what was most odd was the smell. It was a curious, unpleasant scent: something metallic. That was what made her open her eyes to glance over at the two, silver flickering briefly into gold and then back again.

There was no need to activate her yoki just yet. She'd simply watch, and wait.

The lioness looked up from inspecting another pumpkin when the cat jumped down from his post. She blinked and curiously inspected the fellow feline, still a little weirded out by the abundance of these smaller cats in Rivelata.

"Me neither." Nala finally answered him, eyes watching as another bat flew over a nearby rooftop. Her tail twitched a little.

"These decorations are very creative though." She said, blue eyes focusing on the other cat once more. "What is it they're celebrating? Something about... dead people?" A festival to honour the dead made sense, but what was going on in Rivelata now didn't quite seem to match that criteria.

Bored and restless, Kallen left her house, leaving behind a note that said little more than "Be back later." Lelouch had yelled at her and CC for going a little too far with their ideas for Nunnally and the poor pilot needed to let off some steam. Perhaps dressing up and wandering around a bit, enjoying the sites (and most probably the food) would calm her down. They could finalize plans later.

After buying some fresh roasted meat skewers, Kallen spotted Galatea watching a lion and a housecat having a conversation with each other. This would normally freak anybody out, but Kallen was used to things like this happening now, for better or for worse. She took a seat next to Galatea and offered her a skewer.

"You hungry?"

Galatea smiled in her easy, cryptic way, plucking the meat skewer from Kallen's hand and nibbling at it. She wasn't very hungry, her unique physiology made it a rare occurrence, but she knew how to be polite.

"You seem intent on being friendly to me." She closed her eyes. "It's not something I normally experience with humans." The God Eye opened one bright, silver eye to regard Kallen curiously.

"Are you enjoying this ridiculous festival?"

She hadn't seen a Halloween like this in years. Such pretty decorations! In Japan, nowadays it was so... commercialized. Nothing elegant and pretty with true decorations like this. Even the Jack'o'lanterns looked more frightening. Everything just flowed much smoother, and the atmosphere certainly felt more like Halloween. Or, at least, what Matsuri thought Halloween felt like ( ... )

Galatea frowned and stood to her feet, calling over to what looked like a teenage girl bothering the lion.

"Young lady," she called, taking a step forward, "I don't recommend that. It seems docile, bu--" The God Eye suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, her expression growing questioning.

The child felt off. Her ability to sense yoki had been dampened severely, but she still had some of her powers, and she knew what felt human and what...didn't.

She didn't smell like a yoma, nor did Galatea feel the tale-tell signs of a yoki signature, but it was similar enough to make her activate her yoki. Just ten percent, only enough for her eyes to bleed into bright, warm gold. If she used her yoki, she'd be able to get a better idea of what exactly she was dealing with.

The child looked innocent enough, but then again, so did the Abyssal One.

Nala couldn't say she wasn't surprised by the forwardness of the girl. People didn't usually approach her like this! But it certainly wasn't a bad thing, not at all, so the queen moved a little closer to curiously sniff at the girl's hand to get her scent. Matsuri smelled a little different than most, but it wasn't a big concern to Nala.

The girl was being friendly with her, so the lioness would be friendly back. With a soft purr, the feline gently rubbed her head against the palm of Matsuri's hand.

Her ears twitched when she heard the voice of the woman from earlier, though. "I'm not going to..." She trailed off and went silent again when she remembered that that only one who could understand her right now was Mogget. It was odd having such a barrier separating them.

It was a barrier that the smaller feline wasn't held back by. "She will not do anything," he volunteered, tail thumping against the ground lazily. He raised one paw and started to clean it meticulously, before placing it back down.
