It was true that she was still mourning Gabriel’s disappearance, but she needed to get out of the house. Maya had been spending most of her time keeping everything clean, dealing with her ailment, and trying to run the shop all at once. It had worn out her body -- sore limbs, dark circles under her eyes, and wild hair growing. She was grateful when Mohinder invited her for dinner, and she told herself that she was going, she was going to be happy, and she was going to look presentable.

He was her friend, and at times like this -- with everyone disappearing and dying -- she shouldn’t be shutting him out. Besides, Gabriel would want her to be happy.

She arrived a few minutes early. The evening was scary, and she practically ran all the way to Mohinder’s home. At the door, she fumbled with the bundle of extra ingredients in her hands, and knocked on his door.

The knock at the door echoed through the house and Mohinder ran to answer it before realizing he still had the orange rinds in his hand. Not wanting to leave Maya waiting outside, he deposited them behind a vase on the nearest table and made a mental note to clean them up later.

Mohinder opened the door, ready to greet her, and was slightly taken aback by how stunning she looked. It was a completely natural, effortless beauty, and even though he could tell she was tired, there was still a warm, calming glow about her that eclipsed any signs that she was anything but perfectly content.

And now he wished he put a little more effort into his own wardrobe.

"Wow, you... you..." Words would be helpful. "You look lovely, Maya." He beamed at her for a while, standing there dumbstruck until he realized she was carrying something.

"Oh, here, let me take that for you!"

She stood for a minute before Mohinder opened the door. Maya was taken aback by his appearance. He did not look as presentable and doctor-like as the other times they met. It was...casual, very casual, and she liked the smell on him, the way he looked, and everything.

He was -- no, no. Maya should not be thinking of that.

"Thank you, Mohinder." Smiling, she let him take the ingredients and brushed past him to walk inside.
