Haruhi had been on the way to pick up groceries when she spotted Morgan on the ground, or rather, nearly walked into him. She wasn't usually clumsy, but today she had been particularly lost in thought.

At any rate, she was used to this sort of thing by now.

"It's not that bad," she said, overhearing his words, "or it wouldn't be if the governing system here wasn't so corrupt. We'd all rather be back at home though, of course. Are you new here or just a little slow?"

Her big honest eyes were genuine, and there was no mistaking her comment to be intentionally insulting.

"New," he intoned flatly. He glanced up at her, smiling slightly. "Hey, how long have you been here?"

He jumped to his feet, self-pity still sitting low in his belly. "Because I, for one, am wondering about like, currency and stuff. Is this like that one game with the chicken sacrifice currency? I'm not down with killing chickens, my friend, let me tell you right now," he said quickly, holding up his hands in a 'no-way-jose' gesture.

"Um. Hi, I'm Morgan."

"Good morning, Morgan, it's nice to meet you," Haruhi replied, not even slightly fazed, "I'm Fujioka Haruhi. I've been here about a week now."

She ruffled her short hair for a moment as though pondering an answer. "I don't know about sacrificing chickens, but as far as I can tell Rivelata's not too advanced economically speaking. I'm sure there is a currency of some sort, or perhaps a trading system, but the locals are being very generous in lending or helping us out with essentials."

She paused, "I don't think that's likely to last much longer, though."

"Oh hey, well. That's good, I guess," he shrugged, "Though I think it would've been cool to like, slay a dragon and sell it's scales or something. Are there dragons? The gimpy guy said there were unicorns and dragons are totally more awesome than unicorns if you know what I'm saying. You don't really earn any street cred from slaying a unicorn."

He glanced around the market place, only half-looking for dragons when he remembered why he was here in the first place. "So, um. I was sorta looking for a house or a cabin or a spare patch of carpet or something to bunk up in until I beat this game and you seem relatively well informed; would you be up to helping a little brother out?" He grinned, hoping he looked inviting and not like a child-molester. The beard was sometimes mistaken for creepy. But the beard isn't creepy. The beard is simply awesome.
