Yeah right. Kotaro could ninja up the stairs all he wanted, but Hiruma could hear. Claire and her batty boyfriend had come back from looking for the boy not an hour ago, but to no avail. Hiruma was napping on the bed when his ear twitched and he stirred.

It was quiet, but distinct. Footprints and a door being opened and closed. Well, no one else would be sneaking in the house. He rolled over and poked Claire in the ribcage.

"You. Wake up. Fucking dogboy is back. Tried to be sneaky." Hiruma grumbled and rolled out of bed, "Come on. We better make sure he's ok."

The sleep was fitful, Claire drowning in worry. It helped that she was curled up again Hiruma-- the fact that she nearly couldn't sleep when in bed without him just furthered proof of their obvious codependence-- but she just couldn't get herself to relax fully, which led to a restless sort of light sleep, so when Hiruma practically stabbed her, she jolted awake.

"Jesus, you don't-- he what?!" Scrambling to sit up, she rubbed at her eyes, throwing the covers off her. "Where, in his room? And-- yeah," she nodded, running a hand through her hair and getting up out of bed to walk quietly to the door.

"I'm just glad he's alive. You're sure it's him and not Musashi walking around, or something?" she whispered to him, hand on the doorknob.

Hiruma wasn't the only one who had a heightened sense of hearing, and the boy's already above average senses were even more sensitive as long as he stayed this way. He could hear everything in the house, and that included Hiruma and Claire talking in their bedroom, walking down the hall and whispering at his door.

Kotaro groaned irritatedly, too tired to deal with them, but certain that they weren't just going to leave him alone. Before they could open the door, he pulled the covers over him firmly, making sure not even a single long gray strand of hair was visible.

"Musashi doesn't creep around like a thief," he stated simply before opening the door by placing the hand part of his wing on top of Claire's and opened it.

Hiruma walked into the room, thumbs hooked into the belt loop of his pocket. Kotaro smelled the same as always, maybe somewhat more strongly.

"Dogboy. We know you're in there," he gestured to the bed, "Now get out before I sit on your stupid ass!"

"Kota isn't a--" okay, fine, maybe Hiruma had a bit of a point. If he was trying to sneak in, it would probably have him creeping around.

"Maybe I should just tuck him in and let him sleep," she whispered, looking inside and taking a step inside when she spotted him.

Thank god.

... so much for that, though, when Hiruma decided to burst that bubble entirely and just be blunt about this. He had a point, though. Kota was more than likely hurt.

"Hiruma!" she said, throwing him a dark glare before moving to take a seat on the edge of his bed. "Kota, I'm really glad you're home and alive. I'll kill you tomorrow for running away and then taking Shira on, but for now-- from what I heard, you have some really bad wounds are we're going to have to fix up. Please, I don't want those getting infected."

If her voice cracked at one point during her speech, it was hardly audible. Too bad for her, both men had better-than-human hearing.

He held the pillow tight against his head, trying to drown out the ringing in his ears and all the whispering that sounded like there were talking right into his ear at the moment. It didn't help that he was exhausted. He had broken his agreement with Hiruma about being home within twenty-four hours, and instead he was days late and hadn't slept during most of them. It was either waiting for his transformation to wear off or keeping snakes from getting in the hotel room ( ... )
