Max had spent five months in Rivelata, frustrated by the lack of a route home, countless disasters, personal loss both of the physical and emotional kind, and managed to be half as clueless about the workings of the city as she had been on Day 1 here. It was a record, she thought as her wings beat against the sky, to be so completely without knowledge in such a long time ( ... )

As his eyes drifted upward, he caught sight of the flying person and as he tried to keep following her he eventually fell on his butt, mouth hanging open. "Woah..." He'd seen things with wings, but they were usually ugly critters. Not elegant like birds.

He sat there just watching her for a bit, wondering whether she was a youkai or spirit beast or what.

Max yawned and circled above the gawking human. He really was new, wasn't he? After five months, most of the natives were used to her flying around. Max raised an eyebrow and landed on a roof next to the redhead.

"You're new." It was a comment, bordering on an insult, but, hey, she'd been new once. "Normally, people write stuff in this, you know." She held up the journal. "And find this," She flipped open the journal, marked by a red string, to Claire's Newbie Guide, "And read it. Are you journal deficient?"

Her brown eyes calmly rested on his face. What would get under his skin? Maybe not yet, but Max always intended to annoy people. Mostly because it was getting boring here.

"Yer pretty mean for a premonition," Kuwabara sneered as he stood up. "But if it's a fight you want, I'm ready for ya'!" He took up a readied stance. "Especially if yer implyin' I can't read 'CUZ I CAN READ JUST FINE!"

This had to be another kind of test. This was the guardian creature he had to beat before he could move forward. He glared at her, more than ready to back up his challenge.

It couldn't be any worse than a brawl with Urameshi.

Max rolled her eyes. "Yeah, and I'm the Guardian of the Psychotic City too." She replied sarcastically. "I was paying it forward, and this is what I get?" She mocked being hurt, wide brown eyes, innocent lean. Good thing he couldn't see the scared joints, or tattooed wings. But, still, the scars on her body, both small and large, along with the bright red scar along her inner left arm, they each told of a fighter.

He knew how to fight. Interesting. For once, Max deigned not to get into a fight. The newbie wasn't worth it. "Can you? I mean, the journal can be used by anyone! And I don't recall you using it..."

Maybe it had never occurred to the dunce to use it. He seemed like the type to think it was a diary. Maybe he left it somewhere. Oh well.

She leaned backward, giving off an air of unconcern that the human in front of her was within striking distance. Then again, he wasn't a hybrid mutant who'd been on the run for a year. Maybe they were even.
