The question caught her off guard. She'd nearly forgotten that he came from a different world than she did. At first, Susan didn't quite know what to call it- everyone at home simply called it 'the war'. "I believe, it's called, the second great war? There are a lot of air raids on Britain, bombs and things dropping from airplanes, shrapnel everywhere." That was the extent of what she knew about it, other than who was fighting and why. She wasn't one to eagerly memorize facts about the planes, the bombs themselves, like some of the other children ( ... )

Harry blinked once. Twice. Then it hit him. "World War Two?" He sighed. "Yeah... That was a bad war. Lots of muggles died. Muggles being nonmagical folk." He added the last as an afterthought.

He nodded. "It's nothing." He understood. He saw Ron's family, and how the Weasley's were close to one another, even if they bickered. He'd always wanted something like that. To be treated at more than dirt. When she called him brave, he shrugged. "Comes with the scar." A duty, really.

At first, he blushed when she hugged him. He struggled to his feet and wrapped his arms around her in silent reply. She needed the comfort. His cheeks were still burning, but at least she hadn't begun crying on him. That'd make this only slightly more awkward...

Muggles. What a strange sounding word. She laughed somewhat at that, pulling away after noting his discomfort. "Sorry! I- don't know why I did that. It's just, I admired that. How you could talk about your mum and dad and...everything, and act like it wasn't a big deal. But it is- it has to be." she flinched at the disapproving stare from some of the teahouse patrons and quickly settled back down in her seat ( ... )

Harry nodded and sat back down in his chair. He narrowed his eyes in thought before opening them again. "It's..." There's worse. "Most people call it stupidity, what I've done and how I've done it." He nodded and took a sip.

He sighed. "The night my parents were killed, Voldemort tried to use the Killing Curse on me. Unknown to him, he'd killed my mother just before. Her sacrifice protected me. I got this scar, Voldemort's body was destroyed." He gave a shrug. "It used to be a link between me and him." He didn't think it was necessary to tell her there was no link anymore because he'd killed Voldemort. Not when she was so distressed already over the other person's death.

He nodded. "War's never good. I hope he comes back," Harry whispered. He took a bite of a crumpet and glanced at her.

Susan frowned for a moment. "What? It's not stupidity. They shouldn't say that, really." she said, somewhat indignantly. Strangely enough she hadn't known him for very long but already felt some sort of maternal pull to him and this information annoyed her very much. "If it- makes any..difference, I don't think you're stupid." she said softly, wincing at how ridiculous that sounded, how forward ( ... )
