A sharp, raw pain shot through Shira's arm when Sebastian just caught his bones mid-attack. He stared, silent, face strained, eye widened in disbelief and refusal to believe what he saw. But it was only the beginning. A short, breathless outcry escaped him when his bones were hacked cleanly off, and what followed was only pain. It didn't even occur to him with what precision the other worked.

He had started screaming eventually, and when his limbs were all broken and he could no longer struggle, he had switched his objective to staying alive, staying awake. He was not ashamed to scream and wince, the key was to keep breathing, fighting that blackness that threatened to take him over. He had sworn before that if he would die - and there was no way that man would let him get away alive - then he would go down fighting, no matter how pointless, breathing as long as his heart was still inside his body. Of course, that was growing noticeably harder with his ribs smashed and tiny pieces of bones penetrating his lungs ( ... )

The limbs and upper body done, Sebastian could afford to take his time with the lower pelvic region-the bones there were, in his opinion, the most peculiarly shaped and, when damaged, would affect Shira’s sitting posture. That wouldn’t do, so to make the matter easier, he simply kicked Shira off his stool and onto the ground. With the body stretched out, lying on the stomach, Sebastian had more direct access to the pelvic bones. It would have been quickest to simply crush the structures beneath his now-darkened boots, but Sebastian was not one for sloppy work and, frankly, he seldom had as free rein as this to show off his skills in all their practiced glory ( ... )

That last noise, the sound of his pelvis being broken so easily by Sebastian -it rang more profoundly in his ears than any other. He thought of his aunt who had become barren in a similar way, damaged for life. Then he pictured her cold, lifeless face frozen with the eternal beauty of death.

It was too much, feeling his desire for justice conflict with his own guilt. He'd been carrying the weight of it in the pit of his stomach for too long, and now it wanted to come out, cramping its way up his esophagus before it became too unbearable.

Lurching forward, Ciel shook violently as he hacked up his dinner, his eyes squeezing shut to keep from spilling involuntarily tears. It was humiliating, but he couldn't control it. His only consolation was that the criminal had already been put down like a mangy beast and wouldn't witness Ciel's reaction.

At last, it was done. The man was lying so obediently on the ground even Sebastian could not tell whether or not the man had passed out. It would be better for Shira if he had, though judging from the man’s spirit Sebastian wouldn’t be surprised if those hacking, shuddering breaths were conscious and voluntary ( ... )

There was no choice in the matter. They both knew that well. If he ever hoped to embody the true authority as the master of the Phantomhive household, he would have to become stronger. There was no room for him to crumble so easily under the weight of the very punishment he had ordained.

A king must stand firmly on his own orders.

Violence was the only language men like this understood. Words and warnings alone wouldn't pierce his heart, but a shattered rib cage, mere centimeters from its beating pulse would tell stories of many fallen criminals.

Inclining his head towards Sebastian's offered hand, Ciel merely let out a deep breath, sure that the worst of it was now over. His body had broken out in a cold sweat, and the shivers hadn't subsided but he could open his uncovered eye again to stare up at his butler.

"Let's go home."
