It was weird that Max actually knew how he was coping with it. Running away had always been her tactic too. Get away, spend some time thinking it over and come back to completely ignore, or disguise, what had happened and how she had taken it. Most of the time, her second-in-command had been the cause with his ridiculous notions of romance when all she wanted was friendship.
It never really occurred to Max that Hiruma, with that wacky hearing improvement, might hear her wings, but she did a running land, grasping the bag of fruit. Even if he had brought his own food, she hoped that it would be seen as a peace offering and not munition to be thrown at her ( ... )

He folded his arms and looked at the bag, then took it and looked in to it. An assortment of both familiar and downright strange fruit found in Rivelata. A little sweet for him, but a good gift nonetheless. Like a gift basket.
"I'd hope you didn't cook fresh fruit. Since, you know, you grow it."

"It's wretched you have your heart broken." Max said carefully. She tried to keep the images of the ball with Danny away. Now wasn't the time for her to suddenly have the teenage urge to cry herself to sleep. "I've done stupid stuff-" when that happened to me. No. She didn't like talking about this - emotions. It wasn't her forte, and probably never would be. After Jeb... Max was completely reluctant to open up to anyone.
"I guess you could say I've been somewhere near where you probably are." Max said cautiously. "And I'm still there."

Max was being serious? Now they were in trouble. He could have snarked in return, but she was (sort of) baring her soul to him. That took guts.
So he wouldn't betray that trust, he knew better.
"It blows. Seems like everyone I know has felt it but me, ne?" A small smile, "Oh well, first time for everything."
