Now I know why. It was so I'd have someone to live for. It's all I have now.

Don't worry, kit, I refuse to let it be... for me. I just need some time...

Perhaps...not with the children you knew, no.

But with different children. Children who will still laugh and play and love.

I see such things in my dreams.

A number equal to all of the kits I've raised... all of them, playing in the house.

And all of us there watching them.

It seems a good dream - if a little sad.

But we could do that, couldn't we? Fill the house with children again - there are many here that we know.

Shall I come by? And bring the others with me?

[an inkblot as he thinks for a long while]

Perhaps...you do not want to leave your home, but... if it would help your waiting at all, you are always welcome to stay with me. There are so many above the shop, it's...almost impossible to be lonely.

Others who... smell like the forest?

I...

[inkblot]

You know, I think they might - especially now that they've spent so much time around the plants. It isn't...their natural scent, perhaps, but...

It will smell like the forest. And there's a tree, out in the backyard, a big one. From my home.

I imagine I know what the answer will be, but - would you like me to come and help?

I...can be stronger than you remember.
