Well... I went on a search after reading your post, here's what I found:

So... he was forced to fight, assigned a post and deserted because he didn't believe in it. Not everyone wanted to fight, but because of where they lived they were forced to. I don't know if this is true in his case, but it seems very likely. Members of my family who lived in Germany were forced to fight and chained to their post so they couldn't get away. So, that is what I found.
You know...catholics, nazis, it's all the same thing really, when it comes down to it! Good observation though. The other thing is, isn't he a bit old? Oh well. Crazy monotheists! It's Natalie, by the way. =)
