For me, I never really discovered a secret...Pretty much reading before bed and endless repitition. For Foreigner I recorded the other characters lines on a journalist tape recorder thingy, then I'd just play it back and pause it to insert my lines. That's probably the easiest way to test yourself. Ehh, not much help from here. ;)

Forget his suggestion with the tape! (Actually, it's not that bad, but if you're like me at all, you'll make the goddamn tape and then only listen to it once and then forever bury it in the glove compartment because you can't stand how you sound on it.)

Though it soooooo sucks the big one, I think the best way to actually get the lines down is as much practice as possible--with the other people. I think more often than we know, we memorize lines by the emotions or vocal inflections or any kind of feedback or context that we have with the other characters. That's why it's so hard to memorize lines just reading them dry off a boring page over and over, there's no context to that. As much of a pain in the ass as it is, dragging together the other characters as much as you can and just going through it honestly, not always goofing off although that's just required some of the time, is the most effective method for grilling it into your brain--it gives you context, muscle memory and a sense of what your characters are trying to do ( ... )
