I had no idea where you were going with this, when you started in with the gofer explanation. When you got to the punch line.... A "gopher" is a burrowing rodent. I nearly split my sides chuckling.
I do, of course, know I am being extremely generous in saying this but I think sometimes writers get all caught up in telling their story that they skip over the grammar.
Well, it's interesting (and yes, it's easy to do so. Trust me! lol) I'm currently reading a story by an author whose name I know, but who I haven't read before. And another one by someone I do know, but perhaps had only read short stories. The "gopher" came from one of them, as well as from a story I worked on last week for DS. The author I haven't read before (long story there, may make a post about it. Can't decide), has a lot of punctuation errors, but I'm not noticing them as much as I might have expected. As does the other fic (much better story, IMHO), but again, they haven't jumped out at me or spoiled the story for me. Which is unusual (for me). I notice, because that's what I've been paid to do for the past several years, but I'm not grinding my teeth like I would normally be. I suppose that's a credit to the stories/authors - that I'm not being thrown out of the stories (not often) by mechanical errors
( ... )
I didn't realize people didn't know how to spell gofer until it started showing up. Maybe you have to live some place where there are a lot of them? People who have that as a job description, I mean. :)
