Haven't done a reading Wednesday for awhile

I took 3 books out of the library. Changing Planes by Ursula LeGuin: The Sugar Festival by Paul Park: and Probability Moon by Nancy Kress.The second was gruesome (on purpose) and unreadable by me. Hmm. I seem to recall some darker stories in Changing Planes, like the little girl who is kidnapped from the people where adults are silent. But certainly not as heavy as some LeGuin collections.

Even the darker stories seem sort of gentle? I don't know how to describe it. In general, though, I kept thninking "Ursula LeGuin does this and she gets awards, and when I do it it gets flipped back to me because it's not plotty and risky enough. Clearly, I don't do it well enough."
