This time I thought I had backed up my files up to last week in the (Frank-titled) "master ninj" drive automatically: that's where I thought I was saving things to. It's somewhat protected, because it doesn't have an operating system on it ( Read more... )

One of the advantages of Czech is that they had a spelling reform in the 19th century -- recently enough that pronunciation is fairly transparent, but not so recently that people are still griping about it. In terms of cases, it's better than Latin (although worse than German). "Hard" to learn depends enormously on your starting point, of course. I'm sure he'll find it vastly easier than Chinese would be ... or even Hungarian.

Oy! Sorry for the loss of your work. I'm sure everybody has been giving you great suggestions, so I won't repeat them all -- but getting a gmail account and mailing your stuff to yourself every day is a good one.

I wish I knew enough Czech to enjoy Lemonade Joe (aka Limonadovy Joe), one of my favorite movies. Thank heavens for subtitles!

A Czech musical western parody from the 60s. Or from the 30s, if you mean the stage play the movie was based on. Starring Karel Fiala as Joe, a white-suited Good Guy who scorns whiskey and drinks only Kolaloka Lemonade, which gives him his clear-eyed steady aim ( ... )
