[Hm.]

Before I answer your questions, might I ask why you're so interested in it? Mana isn't exactly a primary source of energy here, after all.

[Fair enough.]Actually, I'm collecting this information for my own world, Terca Lumereis. Our primary technology has been blastia so far, which when used with a formula, uses aer for a variety of effects depending on that formula's variables. But to put it simply, the aer has become heavily imbalanced and blastia won't be used anymore because it helps create those heavy imbalances. Up until recently, we had no idea this was happening and blastia has been primarily used for over a thousand years. Soon, we'll be relying solely on a form of mana. The mana we're dealing with is similar to matter, but it still can be manipulated with different kinds of formulas. Right now, I'm trying to test some minor technology that uses those mana formulas. However, I'd like to follow the precautionary principle and learn of other mana forms ( ... )

Indeed. It's along the same line of comparing magic from different worlds; just because the term is the same, the nature of it isn't always. Though there are often some things that function in a similar manner. [Blastia... hm.]

Would you like to meet at the school? It might be easier to discuss face to face, and I can bring some of my own notes, if you'd like. Even if there's nothing in common, it is a fascinating subject matter. You are an acquaintance of Yuri and Estelle's?

Yeah, that's fine. Any notes you could bring or spare will probably be a big help, so I'd appreciate that.

And yeah, I am. We were traveling together before we were brought here by those jerks. I'm Rita Mordio.

Anyways, I can be there in a half hour.

[...And after overhearing what Rita said to Raine, this talk of mana now interest Alexei.]

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help overhearing your previous conversation as it left me pondering. Are you saying you're actually trying to convert a whole world's main source of power and energy into something new and likely foreign to many? How would the world be able to mange a change like that?

[Voice] ritacule February 11 2011, 23:13:58 UTC
Yeah. I am. But I'm not alone, back home other researchers have already begun working on these new formulas. While I'm here, I figured I'd try to learn what I could given the situation.

And in this case, there isn't much choice in the matter. Change isn't ever easy, and it could take a long time before people will be comfortable again but it can be done.

Will you remember what you've learned here should you return home?

Astounding. Yes, change is never easy, but this isn't exactly changing a city law, this could dramatically alter an entire world's ecosystem.

[...]

And yet, you say there is no other choice. How abrupt of a change is this going to be?

Reply

[Voice] ritacule February 11 2011, 23:43:01 UTC
Probably not. But there's always a chance I could and that's what I'm relying on.

Ah- I know that. And considering the current state of our ecosystem, this is for the better. Any negative impacts that could occur from this change is what I'm trying to figure out now.

It'll happen all at once. If my calculations are correct and they should be, any and all blastia will cease to function once we complete our task.

Anyways, do you have any information on mana types that I could use?

Um...I can use mana but only for magic spells. Nothing else, really. But the entire world just uses electricity for power.

Even so, I'd still like to know more about it. So if you could answer my questions, it still might help.

It's magical energy, I think. It comes from the body so I guess there's an unlimited amount but you always have to wait for it to refill if you use it all. I really don't know how it interacts with technology but if you drain yourself of mana, it's generally not a good idea. For the last question, you usually cast magic by using an incantation.

Hmn. Okay. Sure.

And the electricity you use is the same as what's used here, right?

[Aaand Yuan's interest is caught once again. However, if they're going to be discussing mana in so much detail, Yuan feels safer putting up a filter. Rita can probably be trusted with the information, but he's not sure about others.]

That's quite a few questions. I'm not certain how many other worlds are knowledgeable about mana or how different their perceptions are. I can only tell you how it works in my world ( ... )

[Long pause as she reads over it all at least twice. This sounds a little dangerously familiar. Even a little to the extent of historically similar. Comparisons are a dangerous thought, but still...]

That's....

Has there ever been another power source for magitechnology? Or does everything solely rely on mana?

There's never been any suitable source other than mana. Frankly, I doubt such a thing will ever be found, either. There were some attempts to use alternate power sources over the years, such as harnessing steam to power engines, but it could never handle technology of a large magnitude. [There were also Exspheres, but he's avoiding that option for good reason.]

[Slow pen taps. She'd love to give you suggestions but she can do that later, she needs the information right now.]

About the summon spirits you mentioned, I'd like to know more about their role concerning the mana and their origin. More specifically, how exactly are they linked to it? And where did they come from?

Oh, and I'll need to know your world's name, if it has one.

[Whoa. He actually replied? Okay, okay. Trying to stay calm enough to ask oooone question at a tiiiime.]

Why did you bother taking Dein Nomos? It shouldn't even have a use here, right? And besides, I've been monitoring any kind of aer here and all of the levels have been fine. There hasn't been a single imbalance. And it's been safe with Yuri so far. So why go through the trouble of taking it back while you're here? Is there something else?

[Well, she tried, anyway.]

[Filter] formerhero February 13 2011, 02:41:13 UTC
[ There's a long period of silence. ]

... for what reason do you ask? What I do with Dein Nomos should be of no consequence to you.

Reply

[Filter] ritacule February 13 2011, 03:28:40 UTC
Maybe it isn't of consequence here, but it's been and still is back home. That's more than enough of a reason for me.

Look, if there isn't a reason why you took it, fine. But I'd like to know the possibilities. This place is already crazy enough as it is because of those jerks, if there's something else that they could do or learn from it, I'd rather know first.

So will you tell me? I can meet with you in person.
