American Idol - Semifinals

Ugh. They just had to pick two of my very most hated songs of all time - Daughters and Hallelujah. I adore Maybe I'm Amazed, but it can't make up for the rest all on its own. Why you gotta harsh my semifinals buzz?

I winced when I saw Simon gave Lee "Hallelujah." Seriously, could there BE a lazier choice? It's a pretty song, but it's so very overplayed, and they were pushing it with the chorus and whatnot.

That said, I did like Lee's version of it, which is more than I can say for Casey's song. Ugh, Jesus, why is he still there?

Lee actually reminded me a little of David Cook during the performance, so he definitely did what he could with it.

I must confess, I like Casey - mostly because I've had his awesome version of "Jealous Guy" on heavy rotation since it was released, and he never actually sucks even on his bad weeks. And he's 30,000,000% better than Aaron. But yeah, the other two definitely deserve to be the finalists!

Has John Mayer ever written a non-sexist song? The only good thing I can say about "Daughters" is that it's not "Your Body Is A Wonderland". *shudder*

I'm pretty sure that it was an earlier season of AI where I first heard "Hallelujah", though I have no idea which contestant it was. It's entirely possible that I hate it so much because they did it so terribly that time.

Feminist? Seriously? I don't know how anyone could seriously argue that lyrics like

"On behalf of every man
Looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world"

are anything but degrading. I haven't heard anything that bad since Wives and Lovers.
