youth knows no pain

April is going to be a great month. Here is the evidence with which I back my claim:

April 2: I'm going to San Francisco to see the Danny Boyle-directed stage adaptation of Frankenstein starring Jonny Lee Miller (Frankenstein) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Creature). Shopping is most likely to follow afterward.

April 16: I'll be heading down to ( Read more... )

Jonny Lee Miller AND Benedict Cumberbatch???? SO JEALOUS OF YOU RIGHT NOW. I bet the play is going to be ah-MAZING.

How was source code - I love me some Jake, but the previews looked a little invincible/eagle eye.

AND DOCTOR WHO GET BACK IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW.

Actually, I bought my ticket before the line-up was announced so I wasn't sure who I was getting as whom during my screening. It turns out that the theatre website lied, though, because we actually got Benedict as Frankenstein and Jonny as the Creature.

I don't know because we got Jonny as the Creature, too, even though the theatre website said that it would be the other way around. But you're right, he was incredible. He was so vulnerable, especially during the intro when he was learning how to use basic functions that it was almost hard to watch.

It was alright. Jake was good, but the story could have been better.

I know what you mean. I feel like Jonny as the Creature and Benedict as Frankenstein is the more obvious casting choice and so I was really curious to see the roles reversed. The childlike innocence and wonder he has before his run-ins with Frankenstein so greatly contrast with the darkness we see later on. I found it downright shocking when he attacked Elizabeth, particularly when he snapped her neck, and I wasn't the only one either, as the woman next to me audibly gasped and brought her hand to her mouth when it happened.

The premise of reliving eight minutes aboard a train that's about to be bombed was exciting enough, but after awhile it kind of had a video game-like quality to it. You know, if you die, you go back to where you started and try something different in the hopes of a more successful outcome. I think the why and how Jake's character was able to relive those minutes was a more interesting concept, but they weren't explored as much as the bomb plotline was.
