Hey there! Just so I know, what exactly are you studying? Interpreting? I could never go into that, I have to translate a lot when my parents are here or we're in Germany and I hate it so much because it makes my head hurt x_x So kudos to you!

I'm doing a one year MA in Interpreting and Translating. Although the main focus is on interpreting really. We have a two hour translation class each week alternating between J-E and E-J. Then we have 4 interpreting classes each week. For every taught hour we're meant to do 2 hours prep and 2 hours follow-up work. It's quite stressful!

My problem with translating specific stuff is that in some cases I don't even know what it would mean in my mother tongue! Well, you're halfway through! Good luck!

This is very true! Particularly as we're starting to do more complex speeches now so more sophiticated vocabulary comes up. Kind of 'politician speak', which I'm not good at... We get given the topic and around 10 keywords to help us research the topic but you can never be sure that what you've looked up will be entirely relevant :(

No, it was consecutive interpreting which meant I had to take notes and interpret from them. I completely failed on that part so the teacher just read the sentence out again for me and I was like "Oh. Um..." Everyone found that speech really hard though. It was one big lesson of fail :(
