I guess it's the fact that the Hearst's have a castle in America. Not only America, but in California.
It makes sense with William's history of being based in San Francisco. It's just humorous to me that it's a Spanish style cathedral build by a mid-western American during that time. But obviously I'm not accounting for enculturation. He obviously embraced the styles of other people.
It'd be funnier if William had built it where George was from, Missouri.
Ha, yes. Well not only did he build (or have built) a castle, they have a "cabin" up north. About 30 minutes from where I live actually. It's more reminiscent of a castle then the actual castle is, very medieval looking.
Our high school jazz choir entertained there once for the US ambassador to Australia and one or two of the Hearsts. I can't recall which two though.
