The Tartarus

Aug 18, 2008 23:30

With Anise sufficiently appeased by Ion for the moment, Jade escorted the children quickly to where the Tartarus was waiting. Even with the Fon Master in their group, few paid any mind to it. Security was even lighter than the colonel had anticipated, which made him suspect that something was happening elsewhere. Most likely it had to do with what ( Read more... )

Anise plopped down onto a nearby bench, barely taking in her new surroundings. She'd been on ships like this one before. The Fon Master had explained the whole mission to her on the way to the Tartarus. "...I would've thought there would have been more soldiers after Ion," the girl said with a confused tone in her voice. "But that doesn't matter now. How long 'til we get there?"

[ooc: She's gonna be all 'ARE WE THERE YET?!' XD]

[[OOC: Well, that's Anise for you. X'D
So, like, why exactly to we go to Engeve? I think the bridge dies on us or something, so we have to make a stop/detour. Best to check the script, I guess. Now we wait for Luke and Tear.]]

Ion perched himself next to her, hands folded neatly on his lap, face slightly concerned. "The Tartarus is among the most powerful of Malkuth's landships. It shouldn't be too long." He paused. "Hopefully my leaving Daath will be the only real issue we'll face, although we can't count on it yet."

He expected that, even in such a short amount of time, word had already traveled in the direction of Commandant Grants. Mohs was likely furious, but there was nothing that could be done about that. Their priorities were simply different.

[[OOC: I figure in that plot post I made we can discuss in further detail without having monster OOC boxes, but from what I've gleaned in reading the script and manga (plus watching clips off YouTube), the Tartarus stopped at Engave to resupply considering most of the world's food comes from there and all.]]

"Somehow I doubt the rest of our mission will be as easy," Jade commented as he readjusted his glasses. He had already given his men their orders for now, and so long as nothing unexpected happened - such as whatever drew away so many important figures from Daath in the first place - he was free to spend some time with Anise and Ion.

[ooc: ...For some weird reason, that last sentence sounds creepy comin' from Jade. I have no idea why. ^^;]

"...So we just have to sit and wait for the time being? But that's so boring!" Anise whined loudly, crossing her arms across her flat chest. She tapped one petite foot against the ground, in rhythm with the rumbles of the landship.

The boy nodded once. "I'll remember that. I've heard a little about you, actually. They say you and the emperor are good friends."

The deep rumble of the Tartarus' engine caught his attention for a moment, and Ion could only wonder how fast the ship was traveling at that very moment. He smiled a little. "For Anise's sake, how long will it be until we reach our destination?"

"We should reach Rotelro Bridge in a matter of hours," Jade answered as he tucked his hands into his pockets. "From there we'll cross over into Kimlasca and make our way to Baticul." He refrained from giving a definitive timeline as to when they would arrive in the capital. There were too many things that could go wrong. Complications were almost guaranteed to arrive on a mission such as this.

"Aw, come on!" Anise groaned loudly when heard the man's reply. She just hated having to wait for anything. And long hours on a freakin' landship wasn't one of her favorite things to do.

The Fon Master Guardian glanced to the side at her charge, and bit her lip in thought. Anise didn't want to seem like a total brat in front of Ion, but her capacity to sit still for long periods of time was very small. "Colonel, you're the grown-up here. What do you have for us to do? I could go and try to chat up some of your soldiers, instead..."

"Try to be patient," Ion prompted gently. "It's a lot of ground to cover." He rose to his feet smoothly and fiddled with the Order pendant around his neck for a second. "Would you like to take a little walk?"

A tentative look was directed at their host. "Would that be alright, Jade? It will give us something to do; I wouldn't want you to be kept away from other duties because of us."

[[EDIT: Change of adjective. Nothing major. X'D]]
