Reiko had been late, she knew it, that's why she had taken the shortcut through the park to get to the school.
Only, once she had gone through the gate she had a feeling either Storm was really pissed at someone, or she wasn't in Westchester anymore. First tip, was the snow that now swirled around her making her glad she had at least grabbed a sweater, expecting it to be a little chilly with the school's AC on.
The wind blew her long broom skirt around her as she paused to try to figure out where she was. The cars that lined the street were classics all of them. The nineteen year old X-man saw a man coming out of a building with a small child in his arms.
"Huh, sir... Could you help me a minute? Tell me where I am?" She hoped she had managed to hide her Scottish and Japanese accents, used to getting odd looks in Westchester if she slipped to one of them, she didn't look that Asian, or that European. "I kind of got myself lost."
At the call to him from the young woman, Luka stopped and waited for her to reach he and Joe.
"That's always the first question." His smile came automatically.
"The town is called Mapleview." As he settled Joe on his shoulder he made sure his hood was fully up.
"I'm assuming you just got here? Tell you what, why don't I take you down to the cafe, we'll get out of the weather and I'll try and answer your questions for you." As he spoke, his own accent left no doubt that he too was not a native American.
Well at least I know where I am now. Have no idea exactly, but it’s a step closer than I was about five minutes ago. Hopefully the professor will understand why my work’s a little late. She thought hoping that she’d still be able to get the report turned in, after all she had spent the last six hours double checking her work to make sure that it would be the best she had turned in yet.
"Guess I did. Looks like I'm missing my biology class." She tucked the hair from her face again. "That would work, I could use some coffee, pulled an all nighter before this." She flashed him a small smile. Even though it was a little chilly she didn’t seem to mind it that much. Getting inside would work for the little boy the man was carrying though.
"I'm not going to make you late getting him to a day care am I?" She didn't want to cause the man any hassles. After all he’s offered to help me out a little, I don’t want to cause him too much trouble. If I’m stuck here I’ll have to make it up to him. As they headed to the café she noticed
( ... )
She laughed. "It's okay, I think most wee ones do at one point in time." She accepted the keys as she sat back down. Dangling the keys in front of Joe she tried to tempt him into letting go of her hair.
"Before I came to the States, I would babysit for some of the mothers in the village near Father's lands.
Seeing his keys, Joe first tried making a grab for them while keeping hold of Reiko's hair, when he only succeeded in tangling the two together he finally released the strand.
"His mom has long hair, I think he's used to playing in hers." As he went back to eating, Luka found it hard not to watch Joe, when it became clear that his son seemed at ease with the teen, he soon relaxed.
Reiko grinned as finally took the keys. "I don't mind it. At least he didn't yank hard."
She shook her head. "No, it was too dangerous for my mother to have another child after me. She... She died in childbirth, we couldn't leave the keep, there was a bad storm." She chewed her lip a little. "Though, there were always kids at the castle. I was Dad's only kid, but we took in refugees from everywhere. So I was never lonely at least."
"This is all very new to me, where I come from, people can't do that. Then again, they look at me strange for being Catholic, so." He offered a slight shrug.
"I think for now, this is something you may not want to share with anyone else until we see if it's common here, okay?"
"Only reason I told you was so you wouldn't freak if I accidentally healed you or Joe." She smiled softly. "Don't worry, I'm only dangerous if someone attacks me and that's only because of martial art lessons." She nodded.
"I don't plan on telling anyone else unless I have to. I'm not in the job of being a hero. I save that for doctors."
She looked at the school and smiled a little. "I think I can handle it unless you want to come in to warm up." She hated filling out paperwork, but knew she'd have to at least try to finish up her senior year.

"Dr. Luka Kovac." His name came out sounding as if it were Kovach as he pronounced it.
"And this little guy, is my son, Joe." He couldn't help but smile as he identified the child he carried.
"Do you mind my asking where you're from?"
Reply
"Yeah." Reaching for the rubbery keys that laid on the table he handed the across to her.
"I forgot to warn you about his thing for hair, sorry about that."

"Do you want me to go in with you, then you can go to the hospital with us?"
