What is Fat Acceptance?

A post that was inspired by devi42 :

I have seen cases in the Fat Acceptance Community where someone feels like they have pushed their body over it's ideal natural weight.  Typically the person in question is talking about using healthy behaviors to change this situation.  I have seen these people get pummelled by members of the Fat Acceptance Community ( Read more... )

i agree with you.

the trouble i have with weight loss is the goal isn't "ideal weight," the goal is "skinny weight." i'm all for being healthy however one's body interprets that, but the constant weight loss talk and the goal to be a size 6 someday.

but i like what you've written.

I totally agree. This is a very interesting topic to me, and I wish more people could understand it on the level you've presented. Thank you for posting such an insightful thing!

I absolutely agree! I've had a hard time figuring out where my natural weight is (since I've had body issues since forever). I keep finding myself either over-exercising and under-eating to a pathological extent, or sedentary and constantly munching to a concerning extent. It's a weird oscillation between "CURVES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!" and "must become emaciated NOW!" I really wish I could figure out where my body's natural and happy weight is. That's what I want! Not a super-thin body, or a super-chubby body (chubby used here not as a derogatory thing, obvi), just a healthy, happy, well-balanced body.

Oh, western society. See what you've done?!

I used to have the same issues (I was hospitalized for compulsive exercise and under-eating and then gained over 100 lbs in less than 6 months). There's a cool book called "Intuitive Eating" that helped me a lot.

Good luck :)
