As It Turned Out, It Was Only Twenty Seconds.

Oh, good Lord, draegonhawke, I didn't get you anything! Thank you so much! Can I do anything for you? Is there anything you'd really like me to have a go at writing?

So much icon space all of a sudden! I'd say 'I have no idea what I'll do with it all', but I quickly learnt when the space for free users went from three to six that the number of userpics you ( Read more... )

Ooh, ooh! I know, I know! Get dracothelizard to show you seasons 3-7 of Stargate: S-G1! Then I will be Happy Magi for ever and ever. (:P Dude, just enjoy it. Half of the reason I lobbed it at you was because I enjoy stalking my friends' icon pages, and yours never changes. So, er, upload more icons! Then I will also be happy.)

I gave it its own journal so I could blather on about fics I'm never going to write without totally inundating draegonhawke. :P

"Although I may have to draw the line at Robert Kelso/Robert Chase"

Oh, I am VERY much okay with that line. Poor Chase.

And hee! You're pairing up people from Stargate with people from completely different fandoms already!

"because it is quite clearly May and Hammond trudging into Silent Hill. Seriously"

Well, they're carrying suit cases, so at least they're prepared. *sniggers helplessly*
"James, are you allowed to fly in the fog?"
"Well, no, not technically."
"Right, so that's why we're in a bloody ghost town with monsters then."

Video rentals are usually okay, but I think I can put some episode on megaupload or something. I just have to dig up my very illegally burned DVDs and see which episodes are good for a Stargate newbie.

I strongly recommend seasons 3-7, with 4 and 7 being my favorites. Though I wouldn't advise hopping in on 6 or 7, because then you'll be REALLY confused.

Also, the Season 2 finale/Season 3 premere are among the dumbest episodes EVER, so I'd recommend skipping them. (Out of Mind and Into the Fire, so you know.)

Since I'll be attempting to dig up older seasons I've illegally got on DVDs, which episodes d'you think are best for our Stargate-convert? I want to show her Urgo, because Urgo is pure crack :D

Urgo is pure crack, and that's why we love it so!

Were I to construct a Must-See list for 3-7, It'd probably be something like this (with stars next to my must-must sees):

Season 3
Fair Game
Legacy
*Learning Curve
Point Of View
*Deadman Switch
Forever In A Day
Past And Present
Foothold
Pretense
*Urgo
*Shades of Grey
Maternal Instinct
*Crystal Skull
*Nemesis

Season 4
EVERYTHING. (And if you're like me you'll end up watching "Window of Opportunity", like, ten times. So, star especially Small Victories, Upgrades, Window of Opportunity, Watergate, The First Ones, Scorched Earth, the Curse, and Absolute Power)

Season 5
Enemies
Ascension
The Fifth Man
Red Sky
*The Tomb
Between Two Fires
Desperate Measures
Wormhole X-Treme!
*Proving Ground
*48 hours
*Fail Safe
Menace
*Meridian
*Revelations

Season 6
*Redempton
*Descent
Frozen
*Nightwalkers (if only for Jonas's freakish photographic memory)
Abyss
Shadow Play
Prometheus
Unnatural Selection
Sight Unseen
Smoke And Mirrors
Forsaken
*The Changeling
*Full Circle

Season 7*Fallen ( ... )

I think I'll re-read my own Stargate rambles to see which ones I liked, and I'll take yours into account to come up with the Ultimate Must See List, Mwuhahaha!

And I'm glad to see that you liked Jonas as well. I don't know why some people don't.

I was wary of Jonas at first, because I seriously adored Daniel and didn't want him to be "replaced", but Jonas was quite obviously his own character, and a good one, at that.

I think there needed to be so many more episodes with he and Carter fighting crime. He's pretty much built to be a Private Investigator.

Ah, I was ahead of you there because I never liked Daniel and preferred him when he wasn't in the show at all. <-- whited out text, I hope.

Carter and Quinn, Private Investigators. It has a ring, y'know.

I adored Daniel, but I think part of that is because I R LINGUISTINERD. Also, he and Jack have some of the best snarkoffs ever. And he's such a good plot foil, being the only nonmilitary guy there.

That's funny, I study English Lit/Linguistics and I dislike Daniel because he comes across as such a complete idiot when he's being all 'look at me being a linguistic genius! Yay!'

I usually just blame that on the writers. (I usually just blame a lot on the writers. Like all of Season 1. "Maybe he's upset because of some kind of cultural thing?" THANK YOU, MR. ANTHROPOLOGIST. I kinda miss the movie, when they had an actual linguis come in and make their conlang.

Daniel is just so blasted genuine. And I mean genuine as in emotionally genuine, not verisimilitude genuine.

I do too, but sometimes it just grates too much and I end going 'Daniel, you idiot!' I mean, they have military advisors, but no one to look at the linguisticcy things?

draegonhawke January 3 2007, 00:47:20 UTC
Or medical advisors. I mean, nanobots that "simulate" age? Retroviruses that de-evolve you? Mental disorders? Every time I watch The Tok'ra I feel the need to leap through the screen and throttle Carter for not knowing the difference between schizophrenia and MPD/DID/multiplicity.

Well, one might argue that Carter isn't a medical doctor, although you could happily yell at Janet instead.

But Sam rocks my socks for having blown up a PLANET.

Carter knows all hard sciences! (Except vulcanology. She's not a vulcanologist.) She helps Fraiser out with medical procedures all the time! Heck, she and Daniel basically take a turn at every science-related job on the base at some point.

Oh, Carter, you and your exploding things. A planet, a sun....

I have a braintic in which she gets the brilliant idea to fix Orlin's mini-Gate, activate it, and send it through another active Stargate, and accidentally turns the universe inside-out. Then again, I have a lot of fics where Carter's wacky science-sense gets her into wacky fun trouble. (I've decided that Carter can smell science. She'll just walk past a building, sniff the air, and go "There's science happening in there!")

Also she builds reactors in her spare time. Hard not to love someone like that.
