What, Are You Afraid? Afraid Of Ramen?

I expect to make very slow progress in Persona 4 Golden. The PS3 port isn't available in Europe, for some reason, so I've picked it up on Steam instead. This means I'll only be playing it when I'm in the mood for PC gaming, which is never.

Still, I've made a start! I've played for about an hour; just finished the first day at school.

I think it's ( Read more... )

Oh man, you're playing P4G? Hopefully you will be in a PC gaming mood more often; when I got P4G I'd never played a Persona game before and proceeded to spend literally all my free time on it, including a couple days where I spent more hours playing it than I did sleeping. I can't claim that was a healthy attitude, but I certainly enjoyed it, despite its flaws.

I feel obligated to tell you that there's strong evidence Yosuke was originally intended to be a love interest. It's just something people really need to know about him.

(Also, don't think I haven't noticed you liking some of my P5 Tumblr posts. I'm delighted you like roleswap Akechi, but there are Royal spoilers floating around, so be aware of that.)

My computer's crashed a couple of times trying to run it, but I shall persevere!

I'm liking Yosuke more than I expected to so far! Possibly because I'd gleaned the impression from osmosis that the first guy you befriend in a Persona game is always a bit of a 'hilarious pervert' type, and so far he hasn't really demonstrated that. Perhaps, as with Ryuji, I've got that to look forward to later on.

(There's also strong evidence Ryuji was originally intended to be a love interest, by which I mean HE IS CLEARLY IN LOVE WITH ME, WHY CAN'T I MAKE OUT WITH HIM)

Ryuji's sort of considered a reverse Yosuke in some regards; Ryuji starts out likeable and over time gets worse, whereas Yosuke starts out annoying but over time gets better. Plus a lot of Yosuke's most annoying behavior can be recontextualized if you consider that he was very likely originally intended to be closeted, which unfortunately cannot be said for Ryuji.

In conclusion, if you thought Ryuji was in love with you, well, you're gonna have fun with Yosuke, but there's a bit of a rough start and a weird mix of vindication and disappointment that it was almost definitely close to being canon. And a ton of fic, of course. I even wrote a couple.
