Ahhh, I love this series! I agree that the plot let a lot to be desired, especially in the first one, where Barrington Whelk is about as boring an antagonist as one can have. But the language and the characters and the relationships between them are among the most vibrant I've ever seen.

I hope you read and love the rest of the series. I consider the first book the weakest of the four, and it's already excellent, which tells you how highly I regard it all. ♥

Ooh, that's definitely a strong recommendation. A friend of mine owns the rest of the series, so I might see whether I can borrow it. It wouldn't be the first time I've forgiven a weak plot for the sake of characters I enjoy (see also: your icon).
